If anyone has Tim Cook's email by all means send him a link :)

No Apple Stores in Ireland. Only "auth resellers" who do repairs themselves as far as i know. Apple Ireland is located in Cork but its not open to the public nor does it have an email address or anything like that. I think its full of developers and all that lark.

And even if i did contact them they wouldn't do anything for me. Its well past its guarantee. All they would offer is maybe a redressing with a new shell if they had the parts and at that it would cost several hundred which is

1: Not worth the money for an old machine
2: No way in hell can i afford that. Im unemployed at the moment.
3: They're not going to fix the hardware too without it racking up into the several hundreds of euro

i just learn to live with it. im just not looking forward to the day that she completely dies on me because ill have nothing then. its bad enough the shell is failing but the internals are dying too!
I hate to revive the thread, but it is tcook@apple.com.

List of problems:

  • Scraping Sound From HDD
  • Fan Consistently Running at High Speed yet...
  • Machine runs hotter then a frying pan
  • Screen Flickers & Displays Odd Colors (once per day)
  • Screen Randomly Turns Off (every hour)
  • Webcam Green Light Turns On After Every Boot (force restart to solve)
  • Machine makes unfamiliar loud beep on cold startup (force restart to solve)
  • Machine was formatted 2 days ago and its horrifically slow again
  • CD Drive refuses to read/write
  • Battery Ready To Explode
  • Backplate On Battery Pealing Off
  • Mousepad Button Sticks (requires several knocks with my fist to fix)
  • Space Key Sticks (also requires several knocks to fix)
  • Charger cable has split in several areas
  • Charger cable split at the dc converter and was repaired.
  • Charger cable is now twice as long as standard charger (its a mashup of 2 apple chargers)
  • DVI Port Dead
  • Multiple Shell Cracks, Chips and Peelings and missing parts. Screws have literally fallen out of the machine!

my ideas in order from above

-try installing a ssd
-unplug and remove battery, hold down power button for 5 sec...put back battery and plug in ac,power up
-above should fix heat issue also
-no idea about screen, put judging by pictures im guessing hard life...maybe clean install of snow leopard and updates would help?
-my black macbook also has webcam greenlight staying on issue, but only once every now and then
-pram might help
-after clean install Im guessing spotlight is indexing...give it time
-replacing dvd fairly easy, however just as easy to use usb stick
-replace battery (dangerous)
-replace battery again (dangerous)
-try taking apart and clean to fix trackpad
-try taking apart and clean keyboard
-replace charger
-replace charger
-replace charger
-i had a white macbook about a year ago that had chips all along top...took to apple store in hopes they might replace (figuring they would tell me to go fly a kite)...they found top in back, told me to give them 30 min...no charge!

Anything but Impressed with Apple

I purchased my first Mac in 2009. I haven't been impressed. I see NO difference in the quality and performance of the MAC and the PC I currently own.

I just made a post about Final Cut Pro X constantly crashing on my Mac Book Pro.

You expect this kind of thing from a PC but the Apple Hype leads me to believe that a Mac is above PC kinda behavior.

I've never owned a white Macbook, but my mid-2009 Macbook Pro has been rocking like a champion for 3 and a half years, on average 12 hours a day(work online + no life). I replaced the battery and DC-IN charge port 2 months ago but that's it so far, and to me that's expected from a battery that old. No crashing or anything. Cosmetically it's just a little scratched up on the bottom and lid.

She is a 2008 model (bought 2 weeks before the first aluminium macbook came out. I contacted apple after i got it and they told me if i had of bought it 1 week before they would take it back and replace it for a new model.. bastards.

You mean you bought it 3 weeks before the aluminium unibody release?! If it was 2 weeks/14 days you could return it.

Also, throwing a printer away after chewing some pages up is ridiculous and wasteful. And if your Mac is anything to go by I'd say it was something stupid that you did to result in the pages being chewed up!

Reminds me of my best friend actually. Not long ago he called me to say his MBP had inexplicable stopped booting up. Knowing exactly what he was like I knew it would be his fault but I took a look anyway. The Mac looks like a train had hit it (just like everything else he owns), with rubber feet missing and water inside on the various components.

Mate i know i have no way to prove my statement but i swear to your non existant god that my machine was by no way abused by me. Its been in use since 2008 probably around 3-4 hour per day. When travelling it goes into a padded section of my bag. Besides that the above is the result.

Now i dont know but i have my suspicions... did my Macbook roll off the Derp line in Foxconn? Its almost as if the plastic is "rotting" away. Only yesterday another thin strip fell off the bezel around the screen! Soon, its going to be an aluminium shell just like the pro's... except ill probably get electrocuted every time i boot her up and snag my fingers on sharp edges.

Im just waiting for the day Apple knocks my door, apologizes and hands me a machine thats not going to crumble to dust before i do. Fat chance of that

lmao, you're such a liar man. My 2007 MacBook has its scars for sure, but nothing even CLOSE to that. You clearly abused the crap out of that machine, who are you trying to fool??

----------

ill just slip into a drunken coma for a week. then reawaken to my mac nightmare lol

That's probably why it's jacked up now, drunken rage or something and you forgot. You're such a forum troll.

Damn, that thing is beat up!!!!! You obviously dont take care of your stuff. Judging from that table you are more than likely a slob.

I see your CrackBook and raise you a TapeBerry

Wow. That is one work of art. Preserve it.

The only device I've used with such resilience is my father's old Blackberry Curve 8900. I used it for about a year after my smartphone died.

Symptoms:
  • Outer frame cracked in two places
  • 3 keys missing
  • Earpiece cover torn out
  • Upper lock and mute keys not working
  • Antenna shield shattered
  • Coloumn of dead (white) pixels on the right edge

I used it in this condition for around 6 months. I had to replace the 3 missing keys with Staedtler 2mm pencil lead (graphite), held in place with electric tape. It still works, but I replaced it with a new smartphone (in perfect condition so far).

My eyes! oh my eyes!, Gosh I just bought a MacBook just like yours!!!, it's from 2008 and its good as new since the owner took very good care of it!. This makes me sad :(:(

Throw it out the train and get a MBA. It's less prone to cracks.

Seriously, you need to be less abusive with laptops.

OH my gosh these are awesome photos, right on! The monster lives. HAHAHAHA!
