Go first thing in the morning. That's the best time. Nobody's around and you get it out of the way. That way you don't have to think about it after work.

That's when I go..I'm a morning person and much prefer that. I notice that there's definitely a different crowd in the morning than at night. Most are on their way to work, get in and workout and then go..The few times I've gone at night (after 6PM),I find it to be a meat market/social gathering type crowd. With the occasional meat/muscle heads thrown in. Def not my thing. But to each their own..Everybody's different and you've certainly got to find what is best for your own self..

Mid-mornings work best for me.

Gym is quiet…
Sometimes there is a swimming lesson in the pool but otherwise no distractions.

Since I am not into MILFs it is a bit low on eye-candy, but heh, that's not what I'm there for.

:D

Being a male makes it easier on you already, start lifting every other day, it doesn't have to be extreme amounts of time ~45 minutes will do, but make sure you are lifting hard. Once you build muscle mass it will make your job 50x easier than if you were a girl trying to lose the same weight. I suggest protein supplementation once you get on a good routine. Implementation of running after you reach a nice amount of muscle mass is a good idea, you will lose some of your gains so make sure you continue to take protein and eat right (its good for you anyways).

Don't pay attention to #s either. They are highly deceiving from person to person depending on bone structure, height, and muscle mass. My lowest was 185 and I looked sickly, my ideal weight is in the 200-210 range.

i was also told that you can burn more fat directly by working out in the morning b/c the body will use that for energy considering you have nothing in the stomach. not sure if that is true or not.

definitely has to be a lifestyle change.

another one to add is to not eat past 8 pm or if you do, make it a small bit of protein (ie. i usually have some almonds in pro-biotic yogourt).

good luck!

Dieting, in most cases, never works. Being lean and healthy is a lifestyle, and is not something that comes quick.

I'm going to give you my advice to losing weight and being healthy. Only a few things you need to do, but I promise if you follow it for a year, you will look good.

Exercise. At lease 3 times a week (minimum)!

BURN more Calories than you consume.

Only eat WHOLE GRAINS (no enriched flours)

Don't eat foods high in fats

Balanced meals (45% Protein, 45% carbs, 10% fat).

Ah yes- I never eat late either. Good one.

Thanks for sharing.

What's wrong with that? Ultimately, that's all that matters and it's definitely as easy as that.

Track your calories with a site like Fitday, weigh yourself once a week, and burn more than you take in. If you stop losing weight, reduce the calories or increase the exercise or both. Very simple if you have the will power.

Oh, and whether you eat late or not absolutely makes zero difference on weight loss. If you're in a caloric deficit, that's all that matters. Slow-digesting protein before bed, like that in cottage cheese/milk, will help stave off hunger in the mornings.

Nothing wrong with that at all…

In fact it is so obvious, no?
I mean anyone who hasn't quite figured that out is really a bit, shall we say, "slow"?
;)

I think you would be surprised, actually. There's a ton of misinformation out there and people tend to forget that simple point, in my experience.

ok since the post has come back from the dead I guess I should share my progress.

I started dieting a month and a half ago and have lost about 12 lbs (down to 198ish). I can run 2 miles non-stop and starting lifting weights last week.

As a night owl, I haven't been able to really start doing this. Do you guys think this one is significantly important?

The important thing is not to eat before bed. So many people make that mistake. Your body doesn't need food at bedtime (unless you haven't eaten all day :)).

Good! Now just don't stop. Hopefully you have someone giving you advice and showing you how to lift properly.

Cut down on sugar, a lot

Oh, and make your portions smaller, you'll be hungry at first, but then your stomache will "shrink" and won't be able to hold as much food :)

I weigh somewhat much, I'm also 6 feet, but I have muscle... don't concentrate on losing weight, just fat.

EDIT: Oh, and the milk thing, yeah milk is bad for you, any milk that isn't raw or soy is bad in America

Reason: In america they do not pasturize milk properly, only 15 seconds instead of minutes, which kills all the good bacteria and leaves it perfect for bad bacteria. Try picking up unpasturized milk
