Why advertise when they can't even keep up with demand as it is. If someone sees a commercial they don't want to wait 3-4 weeks before they get one. They are getting TONS of media/press attention on the iMac to help fuel demand. I do think they should advertise if they can get the shipping times closer to a week though.
Newsweek and Time have been running apple ads almost every issue.

That's good to hear, but I still haven't seen much about them over here. I'm hoping we'll see a big campaign when the London Apple Store opens in November, it'd make sense. Either way, they seriously need to work on how they sell themselves in the UK.

The only ad I've ever seen for the PM G5 was cool...

I haven't seen a single thing for the iMac G5...

It's exactly the same in Australia I saw the Power Mac G5 ad maybe 3 times on TV. The only other Apple advertising I've seen on TV here is for the iPod. Other than in Mac magazines I don't think I've seen any Apple advertising in any of the press I read either.

For a while I just thought Apple didn't bother with advertising, which when I think about it is just plain weird.

I subscribe to eServer magazine, and for the last few issues, I've see a 2 page add on the first page for Apple's Xserve. It says in bold letter across the top "New stud on the server farm". and to the right of that, there is a paragraph that basically says it has up to 750GB of storage, dual 2GHz processors, and something about how the military ordered a whole bunch of them to create the Mach 5 thinyg.

Useless and a waste of money imo. (the ad that is, not the Xserve :D )

You got some point there. I was in a major reseller earlier today and a lady was drooling over a silver iPodmini and asking friviously about which colour should she choose, glinting mischievously as though it mattered deep down. She was then told that the store only had the 40meg white model in stock. Yoiks! "ya can't buy the one ya want, just the most expensive available..." (paraphrased)

With all the decent pro-Apple pro-iPod propoganda infiltrating the media, Apple is seriously struggling at the grass roots level to maintain a decent flow of stocks.

Incidentally they had enough 20" iMacs, a newer product with no blighty-side airplay of note. Praps they should keep quiet about all their products, it's the only way their stock movements could keep up.

You're right, but then... why did you click on it? Yeah, I know... I don't know why I did either. :p

I do like Apple's ads, but I wish there were more of them. All I see are the ones for the iPods. A couple of newspaper ads and articles and word of mouth isn't going to help much. They do have the Apple Stores, but they need more than the iPod to get people to want to go there if they've never heard of Apple, or have no idea they still exist.

And we all know people who would pay $799 for a headless eMac. Especially if you could change the video card. Shoot, most people would pay $999 for one, more than the low-end eMac. Maybe that's what the single 1.8 is for. Testing the waters for something later, down the line. Single 2.0 next year for $1299? Headless iBook for less than $1000? Maybe, but don't get your hopes up yet. Tell me those wouldn't fly off shelves.

Actually, you're right. I guess they don't need to advertise. They do have some supply issues already. They make these great products, barely advertise them at all, and can't keep them on the shelves. Maybe if they can crank up production, they can crank up promotion. Be nice to see those market share #'s up to about 10 to 20%. More software, cheaper Macs. But let's not start that argument again.

Oh yeah, and the new Gateway and Hip-e (or whatever the heck it's called) are more expensive than the iMac. Even with the $99 BT option.

I understand there are some differences. However, I was looking at the two computers solely from the cost perspective. The comparason was designed to reflect a potential buyer who was more concerned with cost/reliability than performance.

I was thinking of using XP Pro instead. However, the fact that I didn't compensates for the slight differences in RAM and CD burning speed that the Dell has over the eMac.

The problem is bang for your buck and the reality is you don't get it when you compair the two systems. PS you didn't add Apple care to the price. You simply don't purchase a Mac without Applecare.

Yeah, great, a guy gets blown through a wall because of the "power" of his new G5. Nobody cares. They could, and should be much for effective with getting their strong points across in advertising.

True. More adequate to "Windtunnel" G4s. Blows you outta the house with the power of its fans...

Quicksilver model I believe holds this great title....at least, my dad's could.
