Is the 42mm SS with White Sport Band shipping faster? I've seen reports of people ordering it 3 days ago and it already shipping. Is this true, and, if so, is it only outside the US or also for the US?

I thought it was only the 38mm SS with White Sport Band that was shipping faster. Is it the 38 or 42 that's shipping faster?

Scratches on the body can be buffed out with a jeweler's cloth or taken to a watch place to be buffed. You can't exactly do that with the aluminum body.

If your biggest worry is the screen (which is also mine) the SS is a no brainer.

FWIW I bought the SS with Milanese Loop and am exchanging the loop for the Sport band.

I bought an extra sport band... if it'll ever ship. I like the Milanese loop, but I want to wear a sport band for casual, everyday type wear. Keeps the Milanese from potentially scuffing the case.

Sigh I never thought I would say this, but I would say go SS.

After receiving my SGS, I decided I like the apple watch enough to go for SS with Classic buckle at nearly twice the price.

It's probably crazy but i don't want to deal with screen protectors and I wanted something that I could wear to business meetings without it seeming like a gadget (I'm in my late 20's).

given the Gen 1 AW's short lifespan

Why do people keep saying this? It's not as though the current Watches will disappear in a puff of smoke the moment a Gen 2 is announced. They will continue to work and do what they do, just as my iPhone 4 lasted me nearly four years before I finally succumbed to the siren call of AT&T's upgrade offer. And it was still running fine, and I sold it to BuyBackWorld for (IIRC) $35 less than my original subsidized purchase price.

Just to confuse you ...

I got an SS and have wondered if I should have gone for the Sport. Day to day I'm not sure I even notice that it's shiny steel rather than matte aluminium.

I thought I was OCD but apparently not. Tiny bumps and scratches are really not a big deal unless you're constantly staring at your watch under a microscope. It's the screen that matters.

Is IonX liable to scratching? Not if you're careful. I've never scratched an iPhone screen. Despite dropping it down the stairs. Twice. Never even cracked one.

Do non-Sports bands look good on a Sport. Maybe.

I bought the SS because I'm spoilt and wanted "the best". After the initial thrill I'd probably be equally happy with the Sport.

I'm not sure about the scratching. Every single non-sapphire watch I have owned has ended up with scratches. My one sapphire watch is almost 20 years old and doesn't have a single scratch.

Which is why I almost certainly won't attempt to trade down.

But ceramic back? Meh.

Im in the same dilemma, I got a SG Im using i got on launch day, but I eventually want to get a SS and then pay for it to be gold plated. But I can't stand being without the watch for 3-4 weeks, I'm addicted to it.

Because I've worn the Baume-Mercier my parents gave me since 1993 - 21.5 years. I will continue using it as long as I live, and someone in my family will inherit it.

By comparison, my AW might last 4-5 years before Apple discontinues support for it like it did for the Gen 1 iPhone or iPad two years after launch. Now maybe you consider a 5 year lifespan for a $600+ watch a long time but I don't. (specifically not including the Sport which is in line with fashion and running watches not built to last)

A Gen 1 AW will not turn into a puff of smoke in 2020 but it will be as useful as one.

I have an Omega in my safe for formal occasions so the Milanese loop would really not suit a formal purpose for me. The Sport band is probably the better band for a daily driver and I wouldn't have to swap it out when exercising.

Another reason for my decision is I think Apple will release more bands this year. I'd rather return the ML and keep the extra $100 in my pocket for potential future bands.

Buy the one you want. Personally the extra $ for SS given the Gen 1 AW's short lifespan isn't worth the difference. I can use it to buy a brand new Gen2 sport in a year or two. If the AW was forever like a real watch then sure. But the AW is tech, not actual jewelry.

That is then, this is now.

My iPhone 3G still works fine... it's not my daily driver but I keep it in my briefcase as a spare when I travel.

My wife's first-gen iPad also works fine. She uses it for watching videos when running in the pool, rather than put her iPad Air at risk.

I rather expect Baume & Mercier has introduced new models in the two decades you've worn yours. That didn't impact the functionality of your old one.

But we're comparing two very different products. Your B&M is a magnificent work of art. The Apple Watch is a tool.

I have a Tag with a diamond dial, but I never wear it.

The sport may well be best from a daily driver perspective. I could swap the ML for the modern buckle if it EVER is available.

The ML is a great looking band but it's not practical for a daily driver honestly. Rather than spend another $50 and get a Sport band also and watch the ML collect dust because I don't swap them I figured I'd just start with Sport and consider another band down the road.

I would suggest you keep both the sport and the SS ML. I'm using the ML for my daily driver and it's been pretty good so far. It's better than the link bracelet in terms of durable wear since it doesn't show scratches as easily.

Same dilemma, especially after trying them on. Space Grey came in today and I really like it. Ordered SS Black Leather Loop that's still processing. After seeing it in person I'm trying to justify having both...

I just cancelled my 42 SG order a couple of days ago.

Gonna get the 42 SS.

I'm willing to wait and hopefully a few kinks will be worked on while I am waiting.

I really like both, but I can't justify having 2 to myself as hard as I'm trying lol, but if the SS Leather Loop I ordered arrives in the next 2 weeks I may return the SG.

Excellent point. I had a SS and returned it today. I don't think it's worth it. I'm considering a black sport now. I can't justify the crazy prices for something that pretends to be jewellery but has a shelf life. In 1 year the SS watches will be worth half on kijiji once v2 comes out

I had the SG and recently sold it. I have my SS and SG coming in June. I sold it because someone offered me a deal for it. But the try on has me leaning towards the SS. I look it at this way, the sport is more of a fitness device. Yes the SG is nice looking, but clearly not a piece of jewelry. The SS is more classy and can be used for pretty much any occasion. But to each is own.

I was going to do Sport, but changed my mind to SS at the very last second before I ordered - I'm glad I did. The SS feels like a watch, it has weight and the build quality is immaculate. The glass feels like a proper watch crystal and it just looks more professional than the aluminum.

HOWEVER, as a previous comment mentioned, this is a piece of tech that will become obsolete pretty fast. If all you're looking for is functionality, go with the aluminum Sport model - best bang for your buck. If you can afford the premium to SS and care about how it feels/looks, go with the SS.

Other than the increased weight and tougher screen, the difference is purely cosmetic, entirely down to your own personal preference. Not sure how you are hoping other people who not even know you can help you decide what sort of fashion statement you want to make?

Is weight really an issue for you folks? Come on it's not pounds heavier. Just mere ounces. If that much weight is critical for you, I suggest use the money for a gym membership instead.

It'd be more of a personal preference for most people vs. physical ability to support the weight of a heavier watch.

I would suspect people that have worn traditional metal watches and are used to them would like the slightly heavier SS version. People who have never worn a watch or a heavier metal watch may not like the feeling of something on their wrists so would opt for something lighter and "less obtrusive".

I'm in the heavier is more comfortable category.
