I switched to Youtube TV. If you have a few people to go in, they give you multiple accounts. Not bad for $14 and change. I'm not sure why anyone would want to pay this rate for directv now.

Also, for those that don't care for sports, I'd look into Philo. At $16 I believe, it offers a lot of channels.

What is AT&T doing? I understand content costs money, but they are pricing out their existing subscribers and new customers will see they can get another service for cheaper.

Randall Stephenson (or whoever pulls the trigger on this price hikes at AT&T) is either a financial genius or completely insane to make a decision like this.

Also... I’ve never run a giant company and probably have no idea what I’m talking about but it’s fun to complain.

While DirecTV Now is average/poor - not great, not horrendous. Just a C grade. Raising prices on a average or poor product isn't a good idea when there is plenty of competition.

I am going to check out PS Vue, Youtube TV etc (not Sling though given their lack of objective news) later today and compare for the next few weeks. I'll keep the better one or just not have any of them. At an unchanged price, inertia would've kept me going at least until May or June.

The best part about DTVN is that *if* you are an AT&T subscriber, streaming doesn't use bandwidth.

What is Directv?

DirecTV is a satellite provider of TV channels (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirecTV ). I suspect you meant DirecTV Now though, and it is a streaming service (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirecTV_Now)

It's a traditional business practice. When your company is so large, adding $5 or $10 across your entire customer base will almost always give you more overall revenue, even if you have a bunch of people leave because of said price increase.

Good lord, I read HBO was going to be free before and I thought: eh, I guess it isn't that bad. This is nuts, what a weird bait and switch tactic for them to use - are they counting on that many people being too lazy to switch since they aren't price competitive at all now?

Wait, I thought the initial rumor yesterday was that the prices would be increasing $10/mo but would include HBO for free. They’re really trying to milk the Game of Thrones final season.

Directv Now’s Apple TV app is still garbage. We’ll be cancelling and just using the free Hulu that comes with Spotify now, and dusting off the old OTA antenna. Thanks for the free Apple TV.

In another six months they’ll raise prices an additional $10. Pretty obvious that they want to do away with these packages totally.

What sucks the most is that I’m sure they’ll no longer be updating the original packages. No new channels, features etc.

This is why I just buy my content off iTunes instead of dealing with these services. All my season passes are cheaper than any monthly payments.

Hilarious. Cord cutting isn't really too enticing for some people. It all adds up.

I have some friends that are cord cutters.
One of two things seem to happen.
1. They are strictly OTA with one or two subscriptions.
2. They have multiple services and end up paying close to what comparable service from their cable provider offers.

One friend put it this way. The service we went from having a universal remote to 10 remotes.

Really interested to see what Apple brings to the table. But currently I am satisfied with my Hulu $7.99 and Netflix $14.99, has all my needs. But also a geek and curious what Disney+ will look like. As it stands now DC streaming is $4.99, so eventually I will be nickel and dimed or just go with out some services.

I've been a DIRECTV NOW subscriber since the beginning. I've backed many of their changes. This one though? Stupid. Price goes any higher and we'll leave too. At $40/month including HBO, the price was amazing for what we got. $50 though? That puts the cost on par with regular cable service so the cost benefit simply isn't there anymore.

Even the new "Max" package has gotten rid of tons of channels that are in the old "Go Big" package. Fewer channels for more money!

My grandfathered bill is going from $45 to $70 next month.
