I have to say I agree with you all that it was crap. But just a few days after they announced the new app would be released in the spring, which at the time sounded like a terrible idea, there was an update. The update made a huge difference! I feel like the whole app just came together. Since then changing channels is faster, the UI now makes sense and feels more natural. And it's able to stream very well through a VPN on crappy hotel wifi. I'm actually quite impressed with what they have now. The DVR still needs work however. I have one small question for the rest of you. Does the audio quality seem kind of low? It seems like they got over zealous with using a low bitrate.

The audio also depends on the channel at least in my experience. For some reason most channels come in WAY lower than ESPN. When I put it on ESPN, I have to lower my sound system quite a bit. There is a few other channels that seem to use better audio, if that is even possible to do as I would think that is on DirecTV Now's end?

Back to your original question. If you go back to the non-beta version of the app, that definitely uses a higher bitrate across all channels. At least that is what my sound system is telling me by the way I have to adjust volume down when I switch back to the non-beta version.

Anyone else notice these things?

I just got the invite yesterday for tvOS and iOS. Had a login issue since I had two accounts with them that I use the same email address. Had to change my email on one of my accounts (DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET which was easiest) and all was good after that.

So far after only light use it seems to perform the same as the production version. I do like the change from the pull down which was also the menu key to now the menu key is like the pull up from the bottom and the Guide is only there. Seems to make for since to me.

I scheduled a couple recordings but have not watch them yet. I did notice I could not schedule a recording on NBC. Does it only allow recordings on some channels? I did not check the BETA FAQ yet.

EDIT: Just did a play back of a recording and can easily skip thru commercials. The faster scrolling forward does not show frames like some apps do. It would be nice if they added that feature. I actually do not use a DVR that much anymore since I prefer no commercial on demand options but this will work for what little I still need it for.

Have any of you had issues with live tv just stopping randomly? Since the latest beta I’ve been seeing a lot of messages “your network is underperforming......”.

I’m on a 250mb connection and no other apps have issues so I’m guessing it’s just something wonky with this last release.
