I did the $35/month for ATV last year. Great deal, miserable service. I dropped them after the three months. The DVR portion was unusable. And now the costs are skyrocketing every month. So many options are vastly better. IMO.

I got the deal when the service was $35 a month and it only was 3 months prepaid for a 32GB ATV4K.

This deal is nice if you were planning on using DTN, but otherwise it just stinks.

I have a friend who works for Directv in the NOW department. AT&T is forcing the hikes to kill the service and try to route everyone over to WatchTV. Currently WatchTV is available to current ATT subscribers but that will change in June. It will start at $35 a month with 90 channels at that time.
Interesting...

This would explain a few things they have been doing lately, but why would they have this deal if at&t was just going to shut it down?

Ha! No thanks, DTV Now. They have only kept me as a temporary subscriber due to the $10 off for the next three months promo they offered me.

I posted the following in another thread, but I think it would be useful here.

If you want to do Live TV, which I would recommend not to if you can, here are a list of the popular ones out there with some features:

DirecTV Now
@ $50 a month, allows multiple device streaming (2), includes HBO. DirecTV Now use to be the best one imo, but with a 43% increase over 8 months, and losing a bunch of channels on the lowest tier, it is overpriced.

Hulu + Live TV
@ $45 a month, includes all of Hulu's content, allows multiple device streaming (2), multiple profiles.

YouTube Live TV
@ $40 a month, allows multiple device streaming (3), multiple profiles, unlimited DVR, YouTube originals.

Sling TV
@ $25-$40 a month, decent channels, good for sports fans, allows multiple device streaming (1-3 depending on package), and a special right now with 40% off for 3 months.

PS Vue
@ $45 a month, allows multiple device streaming (5), multiple profiles (10), unlimited DVR, great for a large family.

Philo Live TV
@ $16 a month, the cheapest plan, and some decent channels, allows multiple device streaming (3), unlimited DVR.

No offense, but one thing that’s important too is the frame rate. PSvue offers is 60fps on EVERY channel. I believe they’re the only ones that do. It makes a big difference, especially with sports.

Honestly hardly anyone I know watches live TV anymore other than the local news. Programming just sucks, way too liberal. Youtube is where the action is at these days.

Shop around, Cable can not hold a candle to streaming considering they still require fees per box, make you pay for channels you may never watch and tax you with mystery fees and one year low deals that lead you to calling them up
and begging for a new deal....
I can get Xfinity (don't get me started on them either but it's all we have) for $163 a month and they'll pay for Netflix and it'll have 250 channels plus HBO and Showtime. My DirecTV Now alongside internet, Netflix and HBO is going to be about $170.

No offense, but
None taken, not sure why someone would be offended by your statement.

Good to know, this wasn't something I thought of.

I will do some research, and maybe add it to the attribute list.

I really want to like directv. I did the $35 promo and I kept it until the Super Bowl. I only had a few issues with it, but they have so much missed opportunity. Here is my advice for them:
1. Shows I DVR should be available within 24 hours to watch ad free. You already have all the content available on demand so let me opt for that instead of the DVR feed. Get rid of ads in DVRed content.
2. Let me pick the local channel feed. Let me decide if I want to watch the home or away commentary for live sports.
3. Stop jacking up the price for existing customers. I get that price increases will likely come, but existing customers should always be paying slightly less. I don’t care if it’s a rolling credit but give loyalty get loyalty.
4. Offer a way to DVR to my hard drive. It’s my content, that I paid for. I can record cable tv, let me archive my content. I shouldn’t have to re-stream something if I choose to watch it more than once.
5a. Unlink my billing address with my content. I don’t live at my credit cards billing address, and every month I have to change my credit card info to pay for service and than back again to get any local channels.
5b. Let me get local channels when I travel.

I can’t think of a worse streaming service than DirecTV Now.

I got an Apple TV last time, but the DirecTV Now service was so bad, I didn’t use it much. Hear it has gotten worse since then.

I dropped cable last year and my plan was to try a few of the streaming services for a month each and then decide on which one I liked best... First up was PS Vue... Me and my wife loved it so much that 11 months later we have not tried any other.

I know a few people that use PS Vue and like it a lot.

Another one that people seem to like is Sling.

I am most curious about Philo as it is a fraction of the price of the other ones while offering much of what the other ones offer.

I was thinking of just trying Philo to see how it is, but I don't watch live TV, so it would be pretty disruptive for me to try it.

I am currently paying for the grandfathered DirecTV Now "Live a little" plan, although I do not use it. I got it last summer for my parents for them to cut the cord. My DirecTV Now plan has its grandfathered price extended for the next three months, but I am thinking of trying Philo TV just to see if my parents like it, and if so, I will switch.

the apple tv app is still extremely buggy and it looks like they're diverting their engineers away from the Apple TV software to building their own box software.

however, i ran some tests and DIRECTVNOW seems to stream with the highest bitrate of all streaming services. 60 FPS on most channels where 60FPS content is offered too.

I just looked at the “new” channel lineups and wow, they got rid of a lot of channels I watch. Too bad. DirecTV Now was probably the best option in my opinion due to the best selection of channels. I planned on switching but not anymore.

I really wanted to stick it to Directv Now and subscribe to other service but doing some research, looks like all services have lost the rights to Viacom channels like (MTV, Comedy Central, Nick) and are only available to Philo, so even for $50 dlls a month I still get the 65+ channels, still the best offer for me, damn it, I really hate ATT.

lol at ATT/DirecTV Now. Got keep giving away Apple TV to get new customers....guess what they'll see how horrible the service is in the 3 months and leave. Maybe try improve your service and not hike rates on the few loyal customers that been there from day one. Most services are growing subs....DTVN is losing hundreds of thousands.

I struggle to jump aboard the streaming bandwagon. My FiOS bill for TV and internet come to around $108 after taxes per month. Granted I don't have movie channels or DVR, but I can watch my local sports and what I need. To get just internet alone with Verizon it would cost me around $70 plus tax, and any of these streaming services would just let me break even if I'm lucky, or even cost me more.

Get an antenna for local sports, and Netflix is $12 per month. You’re at 82 a month.

I had dtvn apply a $10 credit for the next 3 months but after that I may just look into Philo.. channel lineup doesn't look bad.

And then comes the Fall launch of ATT’s Warner Media-based streaming network. That’s the real payoff and service ATT wants customers to move to.

I was on the original Apple TV promotion. I took the original $35 deal plus $5 for HBO. At the time it seemed worth it and was a customer for two years. I am no longer a customer with this latest price increase it just isn't worth the money to me, I barely watched any of the TV channels so just going to do HBO Now and watch Netflix and Hulu which is good enough for me.

Additional info:

Some services allow using multiple tv-connected-streaming-devices at different locations and some do not. In my experimenting / research the following do allow this:
  • Youtube Live TV
  • DirecTV Now
  • Philo Live TV

I know Hulu Live TV does not, and I belive PS Vue also does not. Oddly, the non-live Hulu works fine in the manner.

I've not looked at Sling TV since it doesn't have any of my local OTA stations and my situation isn't conducive to using an antenna.

While this type of restriction won't affect most folks, it is applicable to those who travel for work and want to carry something like a Roku stick to use the hotel TV for their shows after work, or for folks wanting to use one subscriptions at home and a weekend cabin.

I canceled DTV Now last month and switched to Hulu Live TV. My monthly with DTV Now with the regional sports channels was going up to $65 a month but with Hulu Live TV I'll be getting pretty much the same channels at $45 a month.
