Funny those who do not know how jailbreaking works and the comments they make. I have total access to the file system on the phone and can delete, restore, use the phone as a portable hard drive, or do whatever I wish. This to me is fantastic. Maybe for others it is not. I am more then willing to take the risk of not allowing Apple to delete 'malicious' code and be responsible for this on my own.

It would have been a bad bet anyway.... :)

Uh, i am well aware of how jailbreaking works. QuickPwn, WinPwn, Pwnage, iLiberty, ZiPhone, payloads, flashing, neuters, basebands, Installer, Cydia...everthing from Quake 4 to IntelliScreen. Did i miss anything  And since when the hell did this thread turn into a jailbreaking thread?

But iam glad that your theoretical view on this ridiculous kill-switch issue is going against my theoretical view on what it actually does. I am glad you're willing to take responsibility, but others will not when given the advice to go ahead and disable something that was deliberately put in place on their phone FOR A REASON. And for what it's worth, i have personally helped friends JB their phones, and many of them have gone back to default settings just cause the constant crashing and slowdowns wasn't worth it. There is nothing out there really worth it to make most people jailbreak their phones and lose their warranty. Themes? That's what i have a computer for. And by the way, using themes uses resources...but i digress, i think this thread should be closed and stamped with a huge FAIL sign on it.

Everyone who is so worried about Apple "remotely killing apps they deem unworthy" is forgetting the fact that Apple controls what goes on the app store anyway!! With rare exceptions, everything on the app store has been "deemed worthy" by Apple. Steve Jobs isn't going to wake up one day and say "I'm feeling crappy today. **** Flickr. Let's kill the Flickr app."

I'm referring to Netshare.

But there is a whole list: 'I am Rich,' the old 'Box Office,' 'Phone Saber.'

All of these have been taken off the app store and yet Apple has yet to use the Kill Switch for anything yet.

Are those malicious applications that will cause damage? No.

And why on earth would you want apps like 'I Am Rich' on the app store? They are witty, but a waste of time.

They haven't killed NetShare have they? They deemed that unworthy as you put it....... so on what are you basing your argument?? I was unaware that you had a knowledge of what Apple was planning on doing with the kill switch.

If i had to bet I would think they are going to use it just as they say they are....to terminate malicious apps and malicious apps only. Until they prove otherwise I would have to say you have no basis for you argument.

According to the poster who's using 2.1 Beta 4, NetShare does not work with it. Apple apparently chose a different path to kill NetShare. :)

Is it just me? I find it hard to believe that so many people blindly follow Apple. We all know big corporations don't always do things that are in the best interest of their customers. I don't think Apple is any exception to that.

Does this surprise you that Apple is doing this with an update? They have a history of breaking things with the updates. The point is that they did not use the kill switch which is what everyone is complaining about . The app is only going to get broken if you choose to upgrade to 2.1 when that time comes. Apple is not forcing you to update to 2.1 if you don't want to. You are right though that for the people that do upgrade they are killing the app.

Who is blindly following Apple? This has nothing to do with following or not following, but it does have everything to do with people assuming Apple will abuse their power. Which to date they have not proved that they will in fact abuse it.

You my friend are completely correct in the fact that big business doesn't always look out for the customer... and as much as I love Apple I agree that from time to time they don't either.....however the point still remains that until Apple uses the kill switch to kill an app that is not malicious then they so far have done what is right by the customer.....

I agree that Apple has yet to use the kill switch to remove any apps I'm just not going to take that risk. Again, I am not asking anyone to do anything just letting you all know my opinion. I sure as hell don't plan on upgrading my firmware anytime soon. At least with my phone... "if it ain't broke don't fix it"!

We shall see what 2.1 brings; I doubt copy / paste...

I don't think re-syncing is going to help in the long run when it will just be deleted again.

Look I am not saying Apple would use this tool to steal data from my phone, I just don't like them having the ability to do what they wish.

They may never put the kill switch to Netshare or other fantastic programs that for some reason they do not like, but if they do many many people will be flipping out while those who zapped this ability are still enjoying the app(s).

Anyway, I am not here to argue just wanted to let everyone know of this ability.

Also, why would you not want to have awesome theme's. Theme's will probably never be available through the app store.

maybe we're university students hurrying to finish homework and not much time to tinker around with themes? the iPod/iPhone shouldn't serve this purpose, it's a media player not a icon showing how much time you waste into custom themes. I'm a high school sophomore, and I hardly have enough time to sleep 9 hours a day, let alone mess around with stupid and pointless themes for my ipod touch. so what, your theme is cooler, big deal, it's not in mechanical way better than a regular ipod/iphone.

tethering is illegal by the AT&T contract I assume you signed unless you unlocked the phone too. and what risk? I hope someone disguises a cool app that you download, which steals personal info and bricks your iphone. then we'll see who takes less risks. firmware doesnt "fix it". it makes things more stable and fixed bugs. i hope your phone gets bricked. :p

One reason app may be broken by updates is because they are making calls to parts of the firmware that are in flux or might change from version to version. If an app is playing by the rules and making calls to the documented API properly, Apple has to make sure those calls don't break with new versions. If, however, an app is poking around specific memory locations, calling outside the published API, etc., firmware changes will likely cause them to break.

For example, let's say there's nothing in the SDK that allows an app to access and modify contacts. But, some clever programmer figured out a way to find contacts in memory and has decoded the data format. So, he publishes an app that does some cool stuff with contacts. Now Apple, while striving to improve things and squash bugs, decides on a different data format for the contact info to allow for some new features in the Contacts app. They also update any necessary APIs to understand the new format so existing apps don't stop working. However, that cool hack from the clever programmer read the data directly and bypassed the official calls (which may not have existed in the SDK) and now that app is broken. Apple didn't try to break it, but it's broken nonetheless.

I don't know if any of this has to do with the loss of Netshare on the latest beta, but it's a more likely explanation than if Apple specifically set out to disable the app in the update (IMO).

LOL wow such misguided anger and bitter thinking. I did not realize taking 2 min to install a theme could offend someone so much. Oh that's right your in HS and have raging out of control hormones and emotions.

By the way, illegal and violation on TOS are far from being the same.

You're giving Apple the benefit of doubt. I don't disagree with that optimism, but I'd be cautious whenever it comes to big corporations. They shake hands with you with one hand and hold a knife with the other. You'll know it when they stab you, but it's too late then...

Do you think anybody has the right to destroy another person property without their consent? Because that's where we are talking about. It does not mater if the right will be used or not. It does not mater if it will be used for wrong or not. What it does mater is that is as wrong as I having the right to your house an throwing away your sofa because I didn't like it.

Seriously people you worry me. Is like you would defend anything that comes from apple just because is Apple.

Funny you should say this considering Google has actually utilized a similar feature in android phones twice, yet apple has yet to do so. Why would Apple, as business, intentionally alienate its customers?

*sorry for replying, some thing just annoy me.
