I dislike it as well. On top of that, OS 16 seems to have messed with the syncing between my iPhone and my iPad. Before, when I would delete a text on either device, it would be removed on the other. Now, I have to delete it on both devices separately.

I am having trouble connecting to internet at times since the upgrade to 16.5.

Can we turn off this "report junk" feature in 16.1? I am so goddamn sick of this "report junk" popup. For anyone who uses their iPhone to actually communicate, this "design" decision is beyond terrible.
And I keep accidentally hitting 'Junk!' I wish you could turn it off!

I find this annoying and am glad that they are changing it in IOS16.1
There's already a 'report junk' link in the message, why force me to answer another set of questions on delete?
Looks like enough people are complaining such that Apple is changing it... but what idiot Apple designer thought this was a good idea in the first place?

-- To thus who want me to add each number from each automated source to my contacts... I don't want to.
My contacts are reserved for people I regularly speak with, not the occasional random automated text from a computer checking if I am really me.

NOT all communications needs to be included in the Contact List. We need a means of stopping that comparison as a function.
I agree. I wouldn’t want to put those numbers in that I get texts from for two factor verification into my contacts.

I've had no issues with this since they moved "delete" to the top and "delete and report junk" to the bottom...16.1 beta...so, it is changing and it makes a world of difference.

I upgraded my phone to IOS 16. Now every time I delete a message, there is an extra layer. asking if it is junk and do I want to report it. This is annoying. Is there a setting that turns this verification off? Thanks.

I love how OP asks a clear, straightforward question along with including a little personal context for a basis as to why he’s asking followed by 3 pages of every other users opinion on the feature minus an actual answer to his original question 😁 Hey Jaybar I might as well join in. I also find it annoying as well, would be a better option if as you’re deleting text if every so often something popped up to say “If you’d like to report specific messages as junk this is how you do it” but every text it’s just one extra step to execute the users intended action.

The third response to the thread (with one of the first two being the OP asking again) clearly states that the poster looked and could not find a way to turn it off.

And again, per my post above, Apple has altered it in one of the recent betas to put "delete" on the top, still giving you the option to report as "Junk" but down below so it will be less likely to hit accidentally. Works well IMHO.

Does EVERYONE in here realize the original question wasn "Is there a setting that turns this verification off?" Poster is not asking if you like it, NOT asking if it is good or safe or how you use it, they are not asking if you think it's a good idea, not asking for work arounds (like adding bots to your contacts), EVERY single response here fails to answer the question. If you don't know, it is ok to say "I don't know". If you know the answer is "no", it is ok to say "no". All these responses are like "Which is better Burger King or McDonalds?" - and this audience is like "I like Taco Bell". Good grief.

Mea Culpa - I should have read your response before my rant!

I get so much text spam that I actually love this feature even tho I could see how annoying it could be if you never need to report spam. I guess I never really delete conversations otherwise; some of mine go back to like 2015 haha
If your text spams go back to 2015, I guess reporting them does not really help; except like pressing the elevator close button.

While I prefer the flame broiled aspect of Burger King better, I typically have a better "experience" at McDonald's from customer service, speed, freshness/consistency of food...Wendy's is always a good choice and I LOVE Chick-Fil-A (Popeye's is salty, but a great huge crispy sandwich option every once and a while).

I haven't found a setting to disable it.

FWIW, this "feature" is terrible and Apple should have known better than to burden us with something that is of no immediate user-benefit. Frankly, this is the kind of garbage that I would expect from Microsoft. We are being forced to help them collect spam data. At the very least, there should have been an option to turn it off. Apple is branding iphone as super secure, yet here we are, forced to share data and to do so with a sacrifice to user-convenience. At its inception this idea should should have been an easy "no-go." Users dislike spam, so who in their right-mind thought that it would be a good idea to make the customer spend additional time on spam texts and take additional actions to delete it?!? Big swing and miss by Apple here, and I hope they come to their senses soon to implement a fix so we can disable this atrocity.

Add me to the list of those asking for a way to disable this “feature,” at least in its current form. I know I’ve accidentally hit it a few times. I like the option to report spam, although I’m not sure what happens once it’s reported, but this implementation is poor.

The latest OS update changed the process and is much better. Three options. “Delete“ “Delete and Report Junk“ and “Cancel”. Pick the one you want and Delete is the first/top choice.
