This is probably only useful in very specific parts of the world.

Around here EDGE gives me 200 kbps. On 3G I tend to get around 2500 kbps.

So a page that takes 10 seconds to load on 3G would take over a minute on EDGE.

How long before that extra 30 minutes of battery life gets wiped out by standing around waiting for my phone to load? Where I live this is 1 step forward, 5 steps back.

Your math is WAY off. 200 kbps is .2 mbps. A webpage does NOT take over a minute to load vs just seconds.

Give me a webpage you want me to go to in my phone in EDGE. I will clear the cache and time it.

gsmarena, for example, took exactly 45 seconds to completely load (but I could read it before that).

Granted, of course, on 3G it would probably make it in less time, but EDGE is fine to run all my apps.
