I'm an amateur photographer. Mostly I rely on my dslr and lenses for getting the shots I really want. The iPhone, with it's limitations, is just another tool for me. I do get some fairly good shots with the 6Plus. As I did with the 4S before. I'm not going to tell anyone that the iPhone (or any phone) camera is as good as a dslr, or a point and shoot type camera.
I get mostly good results with my iPhone. I do get some crap shots too. It happens even with expensive cameras.

Overall, I am not disappointed with the iPhone camera. But it's not as good as it could be.

What do you mean by "not as good as it could be" ?

I can say that about pretty much anything, myself as a photographer included. It goes without saying: nothing is as good as it could be.

The point is, is it good enough every time you reach for it, or more than often you would find yourself saying it's not worth the effort?

Bacon is as good as it could be.

I was referring to the noise reduction that has been implemented on this generation of iPhone. It's noticeable is some instances, not in others. And to be sure, this iPhone is more than good enough when I need it to be, just not every time.

Camera+

If you're complaining about imagine quality and compression of the JPG on the iPhone my suggestion would be to try Camera+ it has a Pro mode now for quality and saves the images in the highest quality possible. I mean you end up with 6-8MB photos but the quality is excellent, even on my iPhone 5 when I want to take a real stunning shot I use Camera+ with pro mode its only $1.99 definitely worth it.

It amazes me how many people bought the 6+ and thought that it was somehow an amazing camera or somehow better than the 6 because of OIS. Sorry it's just a cellphone camera, nothing more. Good for snapshots or info recording.

I knew from the specs that it would be at best only a slight improvement on the 5S camera. As it turns out, it's possibly worse. You're right though, it was never going to be anything other than a competent phone snapshooter.

lol it is not worse then the 5S camera, multiple photo shoot outs have shown the 6 and 6 plus in some instances and cases have a noticeable and extremely appreciable improvemnet

All the noise and 'Monet' stuff isn't an improvement.

Hmmm, isn't that exactly what mobile phone cameras are designed for?

On the other hand, I have a feeling that most SLRs are used for snap shots (no, I am not referring to the 5%).

I would rather be snap shooting with an iPhone than my SLR because it's pocketable.

The disturbing trend is that I seem to have my phone with me more often than I do my SLR and my collections of expensive and heavy lenses. So the phone becomes my main photography tool. It is a good thing that I feel the experience is quite acceptable to say the least (sharp, neutral, fast focusing) that more often than not the trade off is worth it.

My 6+ pics coming out grainy? The HDR & flash is off. Someone posted about a "filter" where do you find that at in your phone? Is there an APP to reduce noise? Even holding camera steady they come out grainy sometimes unless there is a lot of light and no flouresant lighting. Spending $850.00 for this crappy phone, so disappointed with its camera. What was the big hype for? My friends Samsung took excellent pics over mine. So embarrassed by my pics! Guess I'll have to take my DSL camera with me more often.
