Just an update, I did use ziphone with my 32gb touch on 1.1.4 and it worked great, no problems whatsoever, and very quick. I definitely recommend it. I had a 16gb one which I had jailbroken through the more complicated method of downgrading and upgrading, prepping, d/ling firmware, etc, and this was much easier. And people who keep talking about jailbreaking being dangerous to your ipod of warranty just have no idea what they're talking about.

yay! Congrats on a fully functional iPod touch!

If you can restore the iPod then you would be restoring it to the factory settings. This way they the iPod would no longer be jailbreaked and would appear as a normal iPod which in this case the warranty would be covered.

Exactly. *IF* you can restore the iPod. But if you are in need of the warranty, what are the chances of being able to restore it? Let's see, screen cracks, sync port or flash drive gets damaged... how are you going to restore the system? Apple fixes it, sees a dozen homebrew apps, charges full price for the repair, marks in your account what they found.

And someone said something about only being screwed if it messes with the firmware, well if you are downloading random apps written by homebrew hackers, how do you know if the app you are downloading accesses it or not? There are other ways they could mess up your system too, like what if a program has a bug that makes it continually write to the flash memory? Most flash memory only has a limited number of writes to each byte before that byte cannot be written to again. And even if it is something that can be fixed, I know *I* don't know anything about ssh or Unix shells, so unless you are a Unix veteran, how are you going to fix it? Especially if it's in a state that you can't, say, install ssh software onto the phone?

What I'm getting at is homebrew apps written by hackers and not vetted by Apple are't going to be as reliable as official apps, and there are many ways they *could* mess up your phone. And even if it doesn't, your phone is going to crash a lot more often.

Hi folks,
Having just bought a ipod touch (16 gig ver 1.1.1.4) I am truly amazed by the technology and what it can do and how it does it. I'm totally blown away. However I am also very disappointed as I believe it could be so much more. Mail is great as is surfing, for me weather is a dismal failure as it appears it doesn't remember anything once you are off line and the web apps are hopeless as they only work on-line. Any extra apps to make my ipod touch more productive can only work if I jail break or wait until I don't know when for more apps which may be web apps any way. To me jailbreak is probably the only answer for the ipod touch to realize its true potential
Have I missed anything

regards,

john

Sorry... but what did you expect? The iPod Touch has been out long enough that you should have easily done your research before you bought it before buying, then complaining.

All your problems would have been solved it seems with an iPhone instead.

Those functions will be available with the iPhone 3Ga version. ;)

Unfortunately, it is a little bigger and has wheels. :p

NO! THATS NOT GOD ENOUGH. IT HAS TO BE PORTABLE!

I go and send Steve and very angry E-male! with an angry face on it!

>:-( <----SEE?! THAT SHOWS HOW ANGRY I AM!
