If they tried that stunt to an Australian purchaser, our laws ensure that they HAVE to honour the advertised price and features, regardless of convenient disclaimers. I might have to start buying more stuff from the States! :p

I'd defo get in contact with the CC company and report them, as well as notifying Apple. Anything which seems too good to be true usually is. ;)

waste of time, but got issue resolved

Finally I got this issue resolved. Yesterday, when I tried to resolve this amicably with iUniTek, they pointed out the typographic error clause that someone already posted here, so I went the CC route with Capital One and I must say, they saved me. The lady with the dispute department conferenced me in with iUniTek and had a heated argument. iUniTek talked about the typographic error to Capitol One and the the dispute resoloution lady said there is some new Federal law that requires companies to bring down websites, ads, or issue counter ads explaining the typographic error within 10 hours. I forgot what law she mentioned, but that took iUniTek by surprise and then finally we settled for a discounted price on the macbook. They will credit me some money for the mistake and so my cost now comes to $830 for the macbook, no softwares, except the ones from Apple and $30 shipping. In the end, I think I wasted my time dealing with iUniTek. Please avoid this reseller at all costs. Thanks to everyone here in this forum for helping me out. I hope my mac experience is smooth from hereon..

Not that this changes anything, but if you go to their Policies page and click the link for Photographic, Typographic and Technical Errors you'll see this:

Photographic, Typographic and Technical Errors
We do our best to be accurate but occasionally mistakes do occur. We are not responsible for any typographical, photographic or technical errors. NOTE: Products and packaging depicted may differ from stock available at time of shipment; we reserve the right to substitute equivalent items.
Prices are subject to change at any time and will be corrected before charging and shipping when a price is incorrectly listed (due to a typo or technical error). A confirmation email will be sent and approved by the customer before any changes are made in this manner.back to top

I think they've covered their butts.

"Substitute equivalent items"? So they could ship you a different Mac, different CPU, different RAM? I think the wording is a clear sign of a scammer and disreputable dealer.

Glad you got it resolved. Never would have thought a CC company would really be on your side, especially Capital One. I would have demanded a full refund and gone to a reputable dealer. If you do have problems you'll have a heck of a time getting support from iUniTek.

I think they should be reported to Apple as well; they are clearly not a reputable dealer and Apple shouldn't be letting them be a reseller.

Their terms about subsituting equivalent makes me wonder if you'd order one Mac and get a different one, perhaps lower CPU speed or less memory. How in the world would Apple let scum like that represent Apple?

How can they hide behind their typographical errors clause when the OP presumably spoke with someone to confirm that he was indeed getting all that with original disks for the stated price?

there does not seem to be any bait and switch. errors happen. if they screwed up then they screwed up. legally they don't have to honor it. it is up to them. they can do it to give good customer service. but the price was too good to be true and that would be something to think about. what would be the point of returning it? they don't make a lot of money selling the computer. so can you get the computer for 50.00 less anywhere else?
