You know it's funny, I'm coming from the other direction. It's a little humorous, so I figured I'd share.
Back in November I ordered my dream shiny. Not a mac. . oh no. a BIG SHINY 17" Razer Blade Pro with 32 gig ram and a GTX 1080. It was *SOOOOOO* beautiful. Of course it was backordered, so I got to wait a few weeks for it, which KILLED ME.
And then it showed up. BEST SCREEN EVER! beautiful semi-mechanical keys, glass display, amazing trackpad. . . the media controls were actually useful... I was in love. Ok, 3 hours battery life, but it was a 4k Gsync panel [Gsync = no optimus] Temps were never over 75c on the CPU and 70 on the GPU.
It ran Oculus rift great: Elite dangerous high VR with some tweaks turned up steady 90+ FPS!
And every time I tried to play Heroes of the Storm, it would randomly shut off.
Yep, just like that.
So, I sent it in for RMA, waited 2 weeks for a replacement. This one the screen was on a little crooked, so every time you tilted it forward you'd get white horizontal bars across the bottom of the screen like it was being stressed. And. . . . . it would randomly shut off during HoTS.
2 more weeks, another unit. . THIS ONE with a warped chassis to boot! Plus...
Yep, you guessed it. random shutoff during HoTS.
I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I demand top build quality, and I'm one of "those" people that actually prefer glossy screens, so my options are really limited when it comes to notebooks. I never paid attention to the new macbook pro line when it was announced, so when I finally did I was blown away.
I didn't care that it wasn't as powerful as the Blade Pro, or that it had less ram... I cared that it'd actually be able to run stupid little programs like HoTS [I don't care if I have to turn down settings providing it doesn't randomly power off] Thunderbolt 3 is going to be AMAZING because I just happen to own a Razer Core, which I understand can work in windows via bootcamp [if I need it, who knows] I'm a mechanical keyboard user by nature, so the loud keyboard doesn't bother me [actually, the thing that trips me up is the SIZE of the keys on the new MBP] Plus, more than 3 hours of battery on light usage!!!!!
So as I sit here typing this, somewhere in a plane over the ocean is my shiny new 2016 macbook pro 2.9 1TB 460. At some point I'm going to pick up logic pro and learn how to use it, and I'm going to enjoy the heck out of continuity and playing with the maybe pointless but oh so fun to mess with touch bar.
Because beautiful form only matters if the product is functional.
Sorry to jump in and anecdote up the place, I'll show myself the door
