I just drove a rental truck cross country. Used my phone for navigation, which really drains the battery quick. The rental truck only had an analog audio input. There needs to be a way to charge and use analog audio.

So, having just watched the live stream I've been left disappointed. Got a 6S at the minute, I do a lot of walking so often have my recharge plugged in via lightning cable and have my EarPods plugged in for music.
If I get a 7, I can't do that. There seems to be no adapter to allow for both?
Anyone else in the same boat and any suggestions? I've been iPhone since day 1 but now I'm starting to consider other options. :(
I know its not the best solution but you can buy the AirPods and then you will be able to plug in the lightning cable and charge

So, when you're walking, you carry a charger pack plugged in as well as a headset (3.5mm)? That must be a load.

There is the wireless headset option that would allow you to do that. One of my big gripe about iPhones from the 5 on is the placement of the headset jack at the bottom. Makes for awkward pocket placement when plugged into a headset. I much preferred the jack back in the old days where it was on the top for this reason.

Get some courage Tim Cook and you'll be ok.

That doesn't really address the part about being out walking or driving and recharging while also connecting to the audio port.

I misunderstood. I didn't realize she was walking and using a power bank. I mean, it would still work it would just be kinda ugly while walking. Although, while driving it wouldn't be that big of an issue.

I was also going to suggest the Lighting AV Adapter since I use it all the time on my TV, but I just realized that it doesn't have a headphone jack. For driving a dock might be the best option right now since you can charge it and use the headphone jack.

Surely someone like monoprice, Belkin or AmazonBasics will make a y cable. It hasn't even been a day yet. Oddly enough, BMW makes one for their infotainment system. It's lighting to usb/Aux, but it costs $80 since it's an OEM part for a car.

5 hours of listening NO THANKS!

Not ideal for long road trips I want to charge and listen to music at same time.

In the car, I use the vehicle's bluetooth to play through the car speakers instead of tiny little ear buds.

If, for some reason, you can't do that, the little carrying case for the AirPods (which you'll definitely have on a long road trip) can keep them charged for 24 hours of listening ... and those can charge via USB->lightning cable while you're listening to music, so you'd have indefinite charging/listening capability.

I could live with removing the 3.5" headphone jack if they'd added a second lightning port. It's unacceptable that they've eliminated the possibility of listening and charging at the same time without an additional (and likely expensive) dongle that I have to keep track of. No thanks. This is like the MacBook which is equally as un-consumer friendly with a single port. They have stepped off the path here. This isn't about courage but is a pure profit grab without regard for how people actually use their products.

This is my biggest complaint about the 7, I charge and listen to my headphones quite often (like right now, while I'm traveling, etc)

Also, I won't be able to use my square reader or PayPal here with the 7.

Get the Plus and just take it fully charged with you?

Just listening to music, your legs will give up before your battery does :p

It will be a none-issue anyway. A splitter cable will be out before you know it ;)
