A version of Discord with native support for Apple silicon Macs is now rolling out to users, almost a year and a half after the first Macs with Apple silicon chips were shipped to customers.

Until now, Discord users have had to rely on Rosetta 2 technology to use Discord on Apple's latest Macs. While usable, Discord on Rosetta 2, which translates apps made for Intel-based Macs to run on Apple silicon, was riddled with poor performance and battery life complaints.

In the latest version of Discord for macOS, the app is now a Universal app, meaning it's designed to run both natively on Intel and Apple silicon-based systems. Discord was previously testing native Apple silicon support in beta, and it's now exited beta and is rolling out to users. The latest version of Discord for macOS can be found on its website.

Would just like for Airpods to work in Windows Discord without having to switch to mono. But I guess this is progress too.

I noticed it sometime last week, so the rollout started a while ago.

App feels snappier now.

I've been using Discord's native canary release for the past few months, and it's been pretty stable. It's nice to see that they're pushing it out to the main version.

Great to see.
Now MS it’s up to you to update Teams!
Lol the ever running joke :)
They're literally doing everything BUT Teams.

AFAIK they could just update to the latest Electron and be done with it.
But they're changing to a whole other technology : WebView2. So yeah, it's going to take time.

do people use Discord as an alternative to Slack? i don't really quite understand how people are using it?

I believe Discord is geared more towards gaming and associated communities, as well an alternative to group chats.

I've been using Discord for the past six plus years as the go-to chat for my friend group, and it continues to grow in popularity, it seems.

thank you for explaining!

really interesting. i think this part of the internet skipped me or something - most likely because i never got into gaming. But i see Discord channels on reddit for Apple subreddits or other communities.

I think i downloaded it once but got spammed with buying crypto or something weird so ended up deleting it. I need to try it again.

Now hopefully they will fix the iPad version when used with an external keyboard, such as the Magic Keyboard or the Smart Keyboard Folio.

And no, I’m not talking about the intro key, that’s already fixed. I’m talking about how the predictive toolbar breaks the app completely in many iPad models
This. This bug is so annoying. Every time I use the app in SlideOver or Split View and it loses focus, the message field shoots up past the edge of the screen.
