My iPad 2 has no more backlight bleeding than my iPad 1 had. Search this forum, and you will find countless threads from last year about backlight bleeding, with posts and pictures that are nearly identical to everything around here lately.

What I'm trying to say is, this is not a new phenomenon, or anything specific to the iPad 2. Too much disinfo out there on the matter.

And to further disgree with the post above, in my opinion the build quality and design of the iPad 2 is excellent, just like the original was. :)

I do have to agree that the iPad 2 upgrade sounds bigger on paper than it feels. In general, apps are only slightly faster, though there are tons of apps that really benefit from the performance.

Hmm, are you sure? My iPad 2 blows my iPad 1 away when it comes to sound output. The iPad 2 seems much louder and clearer.

Maybe I have a bad iPad 1 speaker? Or maybe you have a bad iPad 2 speaker?

I'm pretty happy with the iPad 2. A lot of sluggish Apps are a lot faster. I'm guessing it has more to do with doubling the RAM than the processor speed bump.

It's funny how some people find the iPad 2 speaker to be louder and some don't. I do find it to be a little louder (plus it's definitely richer and better-sounding), but I don't still have my iPad around to compare.

Wow this sure makes me feel like I hit the lottery, I figured the iPad 2 wouldn't be that much better then my iPad 1 and I'd wait for iPad 3 and by the posts I've read I hit the nail on the head..
I can't believe someone actually used the ipad2 being SLIGHLY thinner as reason enough to upgrade.. Are you serious???
I'm not bashing iPad 2 but seeing doubts of upgraders just tells me the newest isn't always the best, there have been thread after thead started by guys wondering when they should sell their iPads to get the most $$ to buy a iPad 2, I bet you wish you waited to see the final product before wasting your $$ on a little thinner :)

Can't say I notice it's faster.
One gets used to thinness in a day, and it still feels heavy.
Really disappointed that in Safari tabs still reload ever so often and the grey checkered patterns appear a lot (although I saw a YouTube vid where they said all of the above would not happen, or not very often).

Ipad three coming in September.

I bought the iPad 1 in November. With no intention of buying the 2, but I also didn't expect it to pretty much replace every other gadget I own. It never leaves my side. With that much use it's issues became very apparent. Weight, hard to hold comfortably, speaker and the sense that the hardware was always being pushed to it's limit.

So I bought the iPad 2 in hopes that these issues would be resolved and IMO they are. The speaker is also superior to the iPad 1 IMO, but the only place to put it was on the back. When the sound has something to bounce off of like a flat surface or your hand its fantastic. When someone releases a case that redirects the sound I'll buy it.

And I disagree about the build quality. Every flat panel display ever made has had some type of issue. The tech simply has not been perfected yet, if it's excessive then return it. But minor bleeding around the edges is to be expected at this point in the game IMO.

And the shell build quality overall IMO is exceptional. They have tweaked the design to perfection. When a rival company admits that their product sucks in comparison. And goes back to the drawing board, that's saying something.

Did Apple hold back a little bit to have stuff for the IPad 3....oh yea. But I don't think the IPad 2 is getting the credit it deserves. For a power user it's a night and day difference IMO.

I didn't notice a speed jump at first either... Then I used an iPad 1 for a few minutes and boy did it seem slow!

I bought the ipad in November and liked it a lot, even more than I thought I would, but my fiance bought me the ipad 2 as an anniversary present (and took over my original ipad), and I definitely feel a big performance boost. Almost no checkerboarding, snappy apps- pretty much everything is better. I agree that this is what the first ipad should have been. I got the 64 gig 3G though, so I doubt I'll upgrade when the new one comes out, but I'm not worried. The ipad 2 is a nice little device and I expect to be happy with it for a couple years :)

Btw, I also for some reason feel like its a lot lighter and easier to hold, even though in reality I know the weight difference isn't that much.

I still get the checkered pages on my iPad 2, as do the ones in the Apple store too. Very disappointing! And that is with a fast internet connection. A macbook air on same network dispays web pages instantly.

Maybe it's because my wifi connection is good but I don't see the checkered pages and I find tabs reloading a lot less.

I find the speed to be pretty good, too. Very good indeed in my everyday usage.

Then there are the crappy cameras and bleed. But neither bother me. I think that once iOS 5 arrives we'll appreciate the iPad 2 more, as by 5.4 iPad 1 will be getting slow and sticky, as per Apple's business model.

The iPad 2 is much faster, the screen is much better than before and Safari is better (but not perfect). I don't understand you people.

What is the single best thing that will make me think "oh yeah it really IS faster!"?

In which way is the screen better? It looks exactly the same to me, if anything in my case worse because of the backlight bleed, which I didn't have on iPad 1.

well for me, i've noticed in safari going between tabs, making new ones, navigating web pages are much much faster. infinity blade looks much better, back to the future runs extremely smooth, as opposed to the original iPad.

and i'm lucky, i have no backlight bleed :D

well i've noticed that some things are louder than others, video sounds are definitely louder and better than my original iPad, as with email notifications, but keyboard clicks sound quieter

Some things I noticed the last two days that I have my iPad 2:
  • Multitasking works without any slowdowns.
  • The screen is much brighter than before
  • The screen has much better contrast
  • Touching the screen glass has a different feel than on the first gen. iPad. I don't know what Apple did, but it feels great.
  • There are no slowdowns when opening apps.
  • Safari is very fast.
  • Safari Tabs do get reloaded every now and then but much less than before. Add to that the muchly improved speed and the issue is almost non existent.
  • Screen bleeding: I don't know how worse it is on other iPads but I can only judge from mine. On the first day I had just a small bleed that isn't noticeable. Today it is even less and for me it isn't an issue anymore. Don't forget that the screen is much more brighter than before, so that could make the screen bleeding appear worse than it is. If the iPad 1 had such a bright screen, then maybe we would also be complaining about screen bleeding. LCD screens do have light screen bleeding.

Just gotta love the way people buy an ip2 then spend ages trying to convince themselves they've done the right thing
Oh and even worse.....lets all hang on for next fw update it will be great then
LMAO !
In the meantime lets fret about light bleed
or dust or is it faster
or should i have bought black
its a wonder some people sleep at night
Personally I'm enjoying making money selling them !
Oh and thanks to the guy that sold me his 64 gb ip1 amazingly cheaply cos he was sooooo desperate for ip2
Enjoy !

iPad power user?

Come on...have some sense of where the iPad is in the computing world.

How does handbrake run?

Guess you should return it. As for myself, it is faster and lighter. FAcetime is nice. Not noticing any backlight bleed.

The magic in the A5 will become apparent when IOS 5 is launched. Then the iPad 2 upgrade will matter.

--Sean

I think this will most likely be the case. As iOS5 is further optimized for the dual core processors, I think we'll see a bigger difference in iPad 1 vs iPad 2. That being said, if any iPad 1 owners have jailbroken their iPads and installed FakeClockUp, the iPad 2 pales in comparison (speed wise in the OS) to the stock iPad 2. That tweak is the single best Cydia app I've ever installed. Makes the OS transitions, web page transitions, etc much, much faster and smoother. Anyone with an iPad 1 could install this tweak and make their device feel like a new machine. I can't wait until the iPad 2 is jailbroken to see how this tweak will perform on it!

It was pretty clear from all the previews and early reviews that the iPad2 wasn't that big of a jump from the iPad1, and definitely not a must-have upgrade.

Read the review from Anandtech. You will find it very technical, but really explains the the dual processor makes everything faster. The graphics engine and double ram with wider buss really kicks. This is a major upgrade and blows the competition away. Back to the drawing board for both Xoom and Samsung in hardware performance.

Where is HP, RIM, and 8.9 and 10.1 from Samsung. Yet to arrive... in the mean time Apple iPad2 is in super high demand. And this is not a biggie... still at the same low price and still with 10+ hours of battery life ... realistic.

Watch what happens when the competition hits with G4 and Flash. The battery use will likely drop in half, if not more.

This isn't to say the original iPad is not good. It really is. 15 million people thought so.

I guess I would consider myself an iPad power user as it is my main computing device and has been since a week after I got my first one. It has almost totally replaced my MBP at home and the MBP is never used outside of the house anymore.

I basically run my business from it and use it for everything. The one place I am tied to a desktop is having Printopia running so that I can print if I ever need too, although I do run a paperless office so I rarely have too.

The iPad 2 is much better if you are using it as your main computing device or for things outside of Angry Birds and reading the newspapers.

Just my IMHO. There can be iPad power users and I think we will find them more and more common. I know a few already.
