Hi,

Just got a HD and i tried to format it to Mac OS Extended (journaled) From a MBR. After the erase is done it's still MBR!

Any ideas?

When you partition it, click on the "Options..." button. From there, you can change the map to "GUID" or "APM" (I'd recommend "GUID").
 
I do not see any option in the disk utility is it possible for you to provide a screen shot, check my screen shot as well.
