With the merging of the services, Disney plans to increase pricing. "We plan to set a higher price for our ad-free tier later this year," Iger said.

Remember back when everyone thought $7.99 was a steal getting all that new and historical Disney content? ...Looks like Mr. Iger and the rest of Disney is getting the last laugh on that one.

Why not just put all the Hulu content on the Disney App?
These corp dolts have no idea what an average user feels about the confusion that their stupid decisions create.
We are still trying to come to terms with so many streaming apps.. considering the entire promise was to deliver escape from confusion of the cable system.

Misleading summary. A large majority of that total 4 million subscriber loss came from India's Disney+ Hotstar.

Disney+ Hotstar subs went from 57.7 million to 52.9 million.

Domestically (U.S. and Canada), Disney actually increased subscribers by 600,000

Correct. Hotstar lost IPL rights and the hardcore sports fans went to the competitor who picked up the license to broadcast. People are quick to go after Disney for all kinds of far fetched reasons when it is basically the same as we deal with here with the NFL.

Price increase aside, this is a good news to me.

Disney+ app is much nicer than Hulu, and searching for contents across both Disney+ and Hulu apps is not a good user experience.

Disney currently charges $9.99/month for Disney Duo Basic (Disney+ and Hulu with ads). By combining Disney+ and Hulu, there's a good argument for Disney Duo Premium (Disney+ and Hulu without ads), most likely at $15.99/month price point, matching (HBO) Max and Netflix Standard.

I’d really just like to be able to pick channels. 2 business news channels, one news channel and that’s all I need. Maybe local channels. If I want a show, iTunes.

A streaming version of cable is idiotic and nets no benefits.

If I don’t watch some subset of CNN/FoxNews/MSNBC why pay for it?

I have Disney+ through my Verizon Wireless plan, but I get up to I think $24/month from AMEX for certain subscriptions, so I have a separate Hulu account with no ads. it has a different email from what I use for Disney+.

I’m assuming I can’t have 2 accounts logged into this new combined app at the same time.

This makes sense and is at this point a tried & tested approach. I suspect Disney will simply add a top row tile for Hulu, analogous to how Star is presented on Disney+ outside the USA.

Disney plans to combine the Hulu and Disney+ streaming services into a single app by the end of this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger said yesterday during Disney's Q2 earnings call (via TechCrunch).
This has been anticipated for a long time. Hulu is only for US and Japan it has no world wide usage like the Disney + that includes the more adult fox content that is part of it outside the USA.

But this is also a indication that a lot of people don't want to hear which is multiple streaming services are about to raise their subscription rates as the take back content and needs to generate revenue for their services.

Of course. Nevermind the fact that I have zero interest in anything on Disney+ as a Hulu user, but now I’ll be forced to pay for it. Great.
Opposite for me, but same result. I have zero interest in Hulu, now as a Disney+ user I will be forced to pay for Hulu.
