If they cancel it, they should immediately stop selling it. Seems unfair to keep on selling an online expensive gaming platform to unaware customers

Then they should only stop selling the game itself and starter packs. I'm sure lots of collectors still want the figurines, even just for displaying them, and cutting them off seems like a bad idea.

So then, Disney ending plans for the Apple TV version was just the beginning of the cancelation for the whole product across all platforms, and not doom and gloom for the Apple TV in particular.

Glad the tech press didn't overreact or anything.
Well, it's not as if there weren't any other signs that the Apple TV platform has problems, like abysmal sales of even "top-selling" apps…

I don't believe so. Skylanders and Lego Dimensions are both still selling well.

Sure about that? At least here in Germany, LEGO Dimensions doesn't seem to be a smash hit: you can still get every figure pack from the first wave, even those that you'd expect to be quite popular, like the BttF or Ghostbusters ones. Many stores even don't seem to bother to order the packs of the following waves.

Disney goes through lots of failures now a days...

Well it's had 3 versions... not sure it's a failure... just development costs ongoing are not worth it.

To be fair there is only a small online element. Sharing out the games you have made yourself.

It's just you. The Amiibo essentially do nothing in games. They unlock costumes and such, while the Disney Infinity sets have actual gameplay, and you use the figures in-game.
But this is going out...sadly
It seems like games are just no longer focused on quality but more on generating the max revenue...

I've never been crazy about Disney Infinity. Personally, I feel like they created a Skylanders clone. Also personally, I'm a little tired about the concept of buyable figures. We've laid off playing Lego Dimensions for other non paid DLC/buyable figure games (a rarity today) However, I can admit that I like Disney Infinity characters better than Nintendo's Amiibo's. Don't even get me started on how last time I checked, they can only hold data for 1 game at a time and, their inclusion in ruined games like Mario Party 10.

Also, the concept of Disney Infinity killed another online game that I used to play over in 2013. It was subscription baised and, my family had 2 separate paid accounts. Anyways, Disney thought that it would be a good idea to migrate it's user base over to the game. Well, the opposite happened. I've talked with a few of my old online friends and, after the shutdown, most of the players did not migrate over to Disney Infinity and, instead got involved in other non-Disney games. Even as a insult to injury, the successor of this game is already in development by a indie company!

Overall, I'm interested in seeing what the next Disney craze in games is.:)

Aw, this is a shame. I have really enjoyed Disney Infinity, especially all the Star Wars stuff, and was hoping there would be lots more Star Wars figures and playsets.

At least the existing games work fine, and the figures are pretty nice collectibles regardless of the software.

This is a real shame but it was just too complicated.

So much investment. looked to be a quality product too. Hope they sell off the figurines as I quite liked them.

Failure is good. It means they're trying something different.

It saddens me to see Disney and WB not try to do more fun things with their beloved cartoons. If I see WB trying something similar again to Space Jam now a days I'll be more excited than my kids for seeing it. My anger with them is not out of hate but out of sadness of the current status of the beloved childhood characters...

Disney is demoniac nonsense. Disney in totality should be discontinued.

Great. So Disney is taking the Lucasarts route.

I know a fair amount of insider information about what happened with Lucas Arts.... and Lucas Arts committed suicide.

Disney Interactive (aka Avalanche Studios) was, and is, profitable even today. However, Disney wanted even larger profit margins (a la greedy investors). They had no personal attachment or investment in the game... just purely a bottom-line look. It's their business. Their call. But I think it's a shame that they killed a game that was actually popular and making cash.

Lego Dimensions is selling horribly. It has been a big failure. Rumor is Skylanders is going to shutter their operation this year.
[doublepost=1462992041][/doublepost]I went out last night and purchased the last 22 avatars I needed to complete my full collection. :)

The problem was that it just wasn't as much fun as Skylanders. The Skylanders stories were more fun, came out first, and had a ton more variety.

I really hated that most of the focus went into the "minecraft world building" side of it rather than the story/quest lines.

Yep. Exactly. That was my thought too... the figures had a nice build quality but the game itself was just not that good. Or fun.

Rumor is Skylanders is going to shutter their operation this year.

Skylanders 6 has been confirmed to be releasing this year. Rest assured, Activision will continue to innovate each year on the Skylanders franchise.

I really did love these games (I had a lot of Skylanders and Infinity) but the reason I stopped consuming is because the games were simply too easy. In order to make sure you keep buying figures, the games themselves were designed to not get you jammed up for long, and therefore - didn't end up being much of a game. Still a bummer, I really liked the design of the Infinity figures themselves.

Yes, this. Exactly this. Disney dropped the ball big time.

I'm glad that I didn't buy into this when the Star Wars editon caught my interest last year. The video game part looked interesting when Larry Byrd ( Major Nelson ) of Microsoft showcased it.

I never played it or Skylanders for that matter. It looks like Disney is going the safer route with licensing . There is a much less risk with that model and you don't need to create a product that might flop. someone pays for your license and they take the risk. you get paid either way.

Whoa! Totally unexpected. I'm pretty sure Disney was losing a lot of money in order to make the decision to can the entire line.

Well the GOOD news is that now Lego might be able to license Star Wars and Marvel for Lego Dimensions :D

Target is currently offering 75% off on Editions 1.0 and 2.0 through their Cartwheel app. And Playstation TV is 50% off.

Funny because I bought the XBox One DI 2.0 game used at Gamestop for $8, but my base wouldn't work. Turns out the XBox One DI base is different. Gamestop wasn't buying any of the XBox One Bases so they didn't have any to sell.

Target has the 75% off 1.0 & 2.0, but I did a price check on the XBox One 2.0 Toy Box Set and it had been marked down to $15. My cartweel brought it down to like $4.

So right now, the 1.0 & 2.0 at Target are at close-out prices and then the Cartwheel App brings it down another 75%....

True though, it seems that it was more into world-building than into the story. The playset story worlds I hear you cannot complete without certain figures.

Embrace the DLC, love it....

I remember when most of this stuff if cosmetic based was in the game. Just had to beat the game in interesting ways or do some funky side stuff.

Separating real expansions from this rant ofc. I have no issue paying for a decent injection of actual new content to a game's story.
