If you take your family to the movies how much does that cost as a comparison? It's an interesting experiment. Since its their service it could really make Disney a ton on money if it does well. Time will tell. ;)
Mom is not interested in going to the movies any more, so we wait to rent. Paying more than $5 to rent for modern films is not something we feel is worth it.

I may sign up for the free year of D+ through my Verizon FiOS a week before sign up for the free year promotion expires (11/30), and just wait until these movies are part of the package instead of paying through the nose.

Not the typical family usage case here.

But what is there to watch on it if you are an adult? I understand it's great for families and I would be buying it if I hadn't already all the films on DVD. But apart from the kid's cartoons and a few things for teenagers what is there?

I have subscribed to Apple TV for this sole reason ( I was really looking forward to it at the cinema). However, I was very disappointed in the film and whilst I’ll use the month fee to watch what I can, theres not much else that interests me ( The Servant, For all Mankind...maybe the Morning Show?) I won’t subscribe again until the Mighty Eighth is released ...if it ever is.

I recommend: Mythic Quest, Defending Jacob, Trying, The Morning Show

"...Disney+ boasts 57.5 million paid subscribers worldwide as of June 27..."

I’m curious what their stats will look like once the free accounts for Verizon unlimited plan users expire. They’re clearly counting those, and after Mandalorian season 2, there’s not much I want to watch left.

Well with the price. My daughter is now in her preteen Disney Channel phase and she has tons of content to watch. I love the nature series as well as Sci-Fi content.

And yet with all those subscribers and all that money, they still don't have any decent parental controls.

As far as I can tell, the only reason this was posted here was for a half-hearted attempt at defending why AppleTV+ is ass. Are egos that fragile? Who cares

This is a good way to look at it. My partner and I would usually go to, I don't know, 30-ish movies a year (a mix of blockbusters in the summer and Oscar-type stuff in the winter). I would guess between the two of us the two tickets would be less than that, by $8-10. Leave the food out of it: I still have to pay for the food in my fridge if I want to eat it when watching at home, though of course that would be more expensive at the theater, so let's call it a wash.

But I LIKE going to the movie theater. I don't have a big home setup, and I'm not going to, but that's not even it: I like the experience of going out to the theater, the communal experience of watching a movie. That's not an option right now, of course, but under normal circumstances (or what was normal in the Before Times), that was something I wasn't going to get from a home viewing of anything.

As for Disney+ itself, I don't subscribe to many streaming services. Just Netflix, really. And I got Apple TV+ for free when I bought my new iPhone, so I've got that. To me, Disney+ is a very straightforward value proposition. The tentpoles there are well-known and have already established their value. Marvel, Disney, Star Wars. The Mandalorian built off of that. Further MCU properties would build off of that.

The thing that pushed me over and got me to sign up for Disney+ was Hamilton. We've watched it maybe five times now. But we've also watched The Mandalorian, and I will probably watch Mulan. In the meantime...I have yet to watch anything on Apple TV+. There's nothing there that makes me immediately want to make room amongst the things we're already watching. Perhaps at some point as we finish things we're currently watching something from Apple TV+ will have a shot. But Hamilton and The Mandalorian immediately went to the top of the list.

I have to admit, Disney+ is wonderful. I've used it almost daily. Netflix and Disney are my main streamers now
