I might start buying the films and shows I like on the iTunes Store/Apple TV. With the cost of these services increasing, it’s probably cheaper to do that in the long run.

Yes, it may cost you £60 for breaking bad: the complete series on the iTunes Store/Apple TV, but you get bonus content & as long as you have it downloaded somewhere, you will keep access to it to be able to watch it whenever you want. People that subscribe to Netflix or whatever will have to keep paying for that service to keep the same access to it (whether they watch it or not, as long as it’s available) & that all adds up.

Careful with that, I've had books I bought on Kindle disappear, and movies on iTunes Store/Apple TV disappear as well, even though I purchased them.

My buddy had all his movies purchased on DVD, then when Blu-Ray came around repurchased each one of them to complete his Blu-Ray library. I'm not laughing at you, just curious if they will have some newer format and people will have to jump again.
No one “has” to jump. 4K BD players can play a DVD. But if you do upgrade, you do get something for it (a technically improved presentation) more than just the right to continue watching it.

There likely won’t be a mainstream physical format after UHD, and that’s fine. Fortunately I’m young enough and started connecting late enough to not have rebought too many titles.

With all these companies raising their prices, pretty soon we will be paying more than we used to pay for cable back in the day.
I’ve been saying that for years. If you tried to fragment what a normal cable package with internet costs by subscribing individually to apps you wouldn’t be saving much if anything. “Cutting the cord” was always going to be tricky.

There is so much to watch on Disney+; I don't think a price increase is unreasonable (especially if there will be an advertising-supported tier coming in hot to offer a lower priced entry-level).

It's always amusing to read how people in the US can't countenance adult-targeted content on the service. Works well here in the UK with the 'Star' brand + parental controls 👌🏻

You don’t need to worry as long as you have them downloaded somewhere, which is what I’ll be doing. I’m also planning on getting a 1TB iPhone 14 Pro just to be able to do that

Well, with Amazon, they might still be able to nuke a book remotely (they did it before, with a version of 1984 for extra irony points) so you can’t read it even if it is downloaded. This is part (but only a fairly small part) of why I have an Android based eInk tablet. (Handwritten note taking with templates of my own design is the main reason, with ebooks from Amazon and other vendors [and DRM free ePub] on the same device being the other. Plus it’s the same size as the Kindle Oasis and only about $30-$50 bucks more. The Oasis is a bit of a ripoff in terms of what you get for the price.)

Any changes to the annual subscription? That’s been relatively cheap (vs available content) since inception.

I just only subscribe to Netflix. We only need one streaming service. The rest can F off. No way I'm paying for more than one.

Wonder if VZW will kick subscribers down to Ad Tier or totally abandon the perk
Was just wondering the same thing. The particular bundle VZW offers (Disney+ no ads, Hulu with ads, and ESPN+) is only increasing by $1...at least for existing customers. Surely VZW can absorb that cost for us, especially considering their 'Verizon Up' rewards program is pretty much crap right now. Right?

I'm guessing Disney and Verizon have some other deal worked out anyway. Does Verizon really pay Disney using the same pricing as everyone else?
