Its July 2021, and still we get no Atmos from the Disney+app when the homepods are set as the default audio output of the Apple TV 4K. Its limited to stereo, and also the overall volume and the dynamic range is inferior to Netflix, Amazon, or Apple TV app.

Disney says that due to the fact that they use a custom A/V player and not the native tvOS player, this is harder to implement. They are still looking into it but there is no ETA at all.

This is absolutely not acceptable. If those of you who have social media don´t mind to do so, please ask Disney+ for this feature.

I wish they would update it. You can tell the difference when playing Star Wars 4K from iTunes movies compared to the D+ version.

Any updates on this issue? I am planning to buy ATV 4K this year and connect Homepods to it as a default speakers.

Thank you very much.
What a bunch of bullock were they saying. That they will look into it blah blah blah..
Is it so hard to work on the app/player?
Just to confirm-everything else IS in Atmos using this configuration as a setup?

Apple content (Itunes Movies and Apple TV+), Netflix and Amazon (although there is almost no Atmos content in the platform), support full surround sound with the Homepods, including Atmos. The infuse app does too, for local content playback.

I do not know if hbo max support Atmos with the Homepods or not, because HBO Max is not yet available in Spain.

Thank you for confirming this. Are majority of Netflix series support Atmos?

Yep, this is pretty awful on Disney's part. I spent a couple of hours a couple of months ago talking to Disney support and they said they would take it to their technical team, but never gave me the answer the OP got so that's good to know they at least acknowledge it.

It's so frustrating, I've resorted to using the LG app on my TV with the Apple TV ARC feature to get Atmos, but the LG Disney+ app is so sluggish compared to the Apple TV!

Wish Disney would get this sorted!

Yeah. Is not the lack of Atmos itself, is that Disney+ through the homepods sound worse than Netflix, Amazon, or Apple apps. Lower volume, worse soundstage.

Weird they don't support this, seems "basic" to me in 2021... Guess not.

Perhaps they do not consider it a basic feature given how specific and niche the use case is.

An OG Homepod -single or stereo pair- owner (now a discontinued product) who uses it/them as the default audio output of an Apple TV 4K.

How many of their subscribers fits that criteria?.

On top of that they said that because they don´t use the default tvOS player this is a very hard feature to implement.

Maybe they see this as a "not worth it" effort.

I saw an app update, so did they do anything with this issue?

No. In fact the update introduced a bugg whereas it doesnt say in the main info card of a movie if it has dolby vision. It just says hdr10 for everything.

Is this on Apple TV app?

Yes. The main info card just states generic HDR10 on every content with HDR now, even though when you play content that you know that is in dolby vision, its get played correctly in dolby vision.
