Does the Vision problem occur in Apple TV app?

Yes. Is just a cosmetic issue. Dolby Vision content gets played correctly, but the main info card only says HDR10, whereas previously it would specify.

Superb. :)
In like Spain. Been to Barcelona :)
BTW any experiences with earc feature and how to enable it?

:).

The earc feature only works with the latest Apple TV 4K (2021 model), and the original Homepods. (will work with the Minis as well after IOS 15 gets released this fall).

By the way, it works with regular ARC as well, so if your tv does not support earc but it has ARC, you can still use it.

The feature allows you output audio from others devices connected to your TV trough your Homepods. It may even work with the internal tv tuner.

First, find if your particular tv model supports ARC or eARC. If it does, find which HDMI port of your TV support the feature (usually is just one of them).

Connect the Apple TV to it. Make the Homepods the default audio output of the Apple TV, and then enable ARC both in the Apple TV and in the audio settings. If the TV gives you options sound wise (ie, PCM, Automatic, Passtrough, Bitstream...), leave in auto or bitstream.

And that should be it.

PD: If you didnt apply your TV video settings to all inputs when you changed them yesterday, and now connect the Apple TV to a different HDMI port of your TV (to enjoy ARC), you will need to do them all again.

  • Make sure that your TV supports ARC or eARC. You can check by seeing if there's an ARC label next to your HDMI ports, or you can contact your TV manufacturer.
  • You might have to turn on ARC, eARC, or HDMI-CEC in the settings of your TV. Check with your TV manufacturer for details.

Done all that but still doesn't work. Here is how i connected it :
Any help?

I have selected Homepods as default speaker, have them connected to earc HDMI port, using Apples Belkin high speed cable. What do i need to enable for this to work and where?
I have a Sony Bluray player connected to Arc HDMI and I would like for sound to be played on Homepods.
TV is Philips OLED 806 if this helps.

Can´t see your picture.

Connect the Blu Ray player to a non ARC HDMI, or disable ARC in that input. Enable earc only in the HDMI port of the apple tv. Go to your tv sound settings or HDMI settings, and try to find earc there.

Then, in the apple tv, go to default audio output, select the homepods, and enable earc below that.

Still not working. Disney+ also do not support Atmos with Airpods Pro, Max and 3 (through the "spatial audio" feature).

Oh well.

HBO Max also do not send Atmos through the Homepods.

Any update on this?

Sadly, no. Still not supported. At this point I have lost all hope. Is not going to happen. The Homepod Mini do not support Atmos and the OG Homepod have been discontinued for quite a while now.

The Home Theater feature was introduced on 14.2, which was released on November 20th, 2020. Its been almost a year and still no proper support from Disney+.

Curiously enough, Atmos trough spatial audio (for Airpods Pro and Max), isn´t working either.

It has finally happened!

@BlankStar @ScrumpyDaniel @Madchemic39 @JBaby

@TonyC28

Disney+ tech customer sent me an email yesterday, which I found in my spam folder (WTF), this morning, saying something like this:

Dear Disney+ customer: regarding your inquiry several months ago about Disney+ supporting surround sound on an Apple TV 4K via Airplay 2 and the "default audio output" feature, we´re happy to report that we have implemented changes in our A/V player audio pipeline to fully take advantage of this, and those changes are now incorporated in the latest version of the tvOS app".

So... I ran to test stuff, of course.

Go to the app store on the Apple TV, search for Disney+, and see if there is an update available. If there is, click on the UPDATE button. If there is not, you already have the latest version, which was released very recently.

Go ahead and test content. Not just with Atmos, but in general. The soundstage should be wider, less congested, less compressed, the bass tighter and more focused. Sound should be clearer in general, more clean and precise. Dialogue should improve as well. Disney+ content now sound better in general with the homepods, not just Atmos tracks.

Of course, there is catch, but only an aesthetic one, fortunately:

There is currently a bug (not with the homepods, but with the Disney+ app in general), regarding Atmos content that causes the info card of the content to just display 5.1, not Atmos, but if you choose the Atmos audio track while playing said content, it will actually play correctly in Atmos.

Tested it with my internal LG OLED speakers and Mandalorian:

The info card of the show only said 5.1 even with my internal tv speakers selected as the audio output, but when I started the playback and choose the English track (which is Atmos), the Atmos badge appeared on the screen for a few seconds.

Oh my word!! This is brilliant news. Thanks for the heads up @B/D. Can't wait to try it later tonight.

Hopefully they fix the bug with it displaying 5.1. But this is a huge development, at last!!

@ScrumpyDaniel

Can you report back?

Remus Larsen from flatpanels hd checked with xcode on the apple tv the A/V stats, and sadly the device seems to indicate that only 5.1 is been pass trough to the homepods from Disney+ whereas it report Atmos correctly from Apple TV+ and Disney+ content.

However, the overall sound quality itself is much better than before, even with non Atmos content. So maybe Atmos is not here yet, but progress is being made. Perhaps prior to this the HP where limited to stereo sound with Disney+.

Make sure that you have the latest version of the Disney+app (manually check it in the Apple TV app store to be sure).

Disney+ Atmos content with the homepods (only 5.1 is being reported, as you can see):

Netflix and Apple TV+, however, report Atmos correctly:

Can someone ck to see if this is working on original homepods?

Yeah, I opened that thread, thank you for spreading the word. Its now working with the Airpods Max. I didnt have the chance to test it with the pods yet.

Go the app store first, search for Disney+, and check if an update is available . Only the latest update properly supports this.
