Disney+ Streaming Platform to Host Entire Disney Motion Picture Library

The more streaming services that continued to be offered, the more I prefer ownership. Streaming is becoming increasingly fragmented - I don't want to subscribe to a service for every single content house, and yet, this is becoming the world we live in.

Think about it: $2000 can either buy you pretty much all of the classic Disney / Pixar movies, OR, you can get access to Disney+ for 10 years. I would much rather own these movies forever and not have to pay monthly.

If too many production companies follow this example, we might eventually see a case about digital distribution that’s similar to United States vs. Paramount Inc., but given the financial muscle of companies like Disney, this might take a long time.

Not too long. Good ol' Mickey is due for a copyright extension again. So they better start cutting checks to congress.

People leave cable TV due to overpriced packages and fragmented content, moving to a centralized and online Netflix. So what do the companies do? Fragment and decentralize the online content, making it resemble cable tv with multiple subscriptions paying for smaller and different content. How many times do we need to teach you old man?
Upvoted if just for the Sponge Bob reference. For all those who harped for ala-carte programming, be careful what you ask for because this is what it may look like (and don't expect big cost savings).

Very much excited for Disney+! Netflix has gone downhill as of late (until a couple originals come back with a new season). Hulu is still good, but getting a little stale. CBS AA is great, with more shows coming! But Disney+ will really be worth the streaming cost. Such a huge volume of quality entertainment.

Can't wait to get Disney+ (quality over quantity) then I can drop Notflix (quantity over quality) which sucks.

Hopefully Disney follows through and actually does this, including films like Song of the South and such, otherwise it is NOT the entire library.

It's Disney. Nothing more to be said.
Iger has previously said it will be around $4.99 per month.

If you can watch everything that's currently on the iTunes store in a week you have too much time on your hands...

I meant the the Apple Streaming Services original and new content, not the entire iTunes catalogue.;)

Still true, I must have a lot of times on my hands; most people don't.

Curious if they will offer 4k and Dolby Vision along with Atmos? Currently I have to buy or rent any Disney movies via Vudu as Apple won’t pass Disney’s fees for such content on to willing customers. I happily give Vudu my money instead.

This. I have over 10 binders of DVD's and Blu-Rays (approx. 5000 discs) that I haven't touched in multiple years.
Entirely separate from the rest of the discussion, I'm trying to figure out what these binders are that you have, that hold 500 discs each. That sounds unmanageably large.

Yeah, no thanks. The only time I could see myself subscribing to this is when my wife and I have children. Otherwise, I'll pass. Netflix/Hulu/HBO/Amazon Prime are enough for us.

Hard to believe that a company is launching a product that isn't specifically tailored to you.

Around $4.99 a month for all of this?! Wow! If that is true I'll be a day one subscriber. Our 3 year old is going to go ballistic with excitement over this (admittedly I will be too... huge Disney fan since I was a kid).

You can get binders that hold up to 600 discs from FoxBoxMedia. Most of the binders I have are cheap Walmart binders with capacities from 350 to 450. I have 13-15 total (hence the over 10). If you don't have to be neat, you can buy a simple 5" D-Ring binder from Staples and some CD sheets. That get's messy though, so actual media binders is a better bet to store large volumes. Ask me how I know.:(

Depending on the price, I might subscribe maybe once or twice a year just to catch up on Marvel/ Star Wars ones.

Valid point. I love Pixar films, so I could subscribe for a month to watch some of the films I don't already own/aren't available to rent on iTunes.

Disney+ for how much???

Let me check my Plex. Oh wait, I'm good.

I want a service that has JUST the original racist and banned content from Disney, Warner Bros., etc. If it doesn't have Speedy Gonzales, Song of the South, that version of Rescuers with the naked lady, and "Coal Black and the Sebben Dwarfs", I don't want to see it.

Apple has to start somewhere, but how can they even compete with something like this?

Look at Apple Maps; they still don't have Street View 6 years later.

Do you think Apple Streaming Service will rival anyone in 6 years?

Maybe, as long as Apple doesn't get in their own way, which is happening according to the rumors.

6 years is a long time in the tech world though, so they might be able to get it right.

Well, for now archival stock is all they have. So, if they have to get off to a good start, that is their only bet.

Only new offerings they can have now is from sports programming.

Well how much content does Disney own? What if they included all ABC programming with this as well?

The company is MASSIVE. They could probably get quite a few subscribers if they included their properties beyond the ones that have actual "Disney" brand on them.

Personally, Im hoping they do high-quality releases of the 90's Disney cartoons as I would love to relive them with my niece and nephew and the copies i have are either the odd actual VHS or rips of 480p garbage. (with my luck they didnt keep the masters or something so they wont be able to digitize them)

the only way Disney will get me to pay for this consistently is if it has everything archival from Disney no exceptions.
Shorts, TV, Movies etc. unedited/censored.

in this day and age, you cannot say they lack the tech to age restrict/content filter an account designated for kids.

in addition, it's not like it's hard to host multiple copies of a movie with both the edited (for kids) and unedited versions or fully restrict an item if it wasn't cant be cleaned

if not then I will "sail the high seas" for any content i'm missing and stick with Plex

I'd say good start but...
I think your missing most (if not all) of the disney direct to video sequels.
also what about the non-MCU marvel movies?, (horrible)starwars christmas special, starwars cartoons (clone wars and rebels are both current disney cannon)

not saying most of those are good just saying if your aim is a complete collection similar to pokemon you gotta catch them all.
