Disney has content that we’ve seen before (that is worthwhile). In terms of new content for their service only it’ll be as slow going as Apple. It’s basically Disney channel plus but I never watch Disney channel as it is. I don’t get the excitement unless you’re a kid. Maybe it’s a millennial thing

So you get excited over Apple TV which will have very little original content and probably not that great compared to Netflix or Hulu but Disney which will have over 8000 titles and will blow little Apple TV out of the water. This is a very small market in comparison to apple

I think you're confusing "Disney" with Disney the company.

Disney streaming will incorporate ALL disney owned holdings. This includes:
ABC, ESPN, Touchstone pictures, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, A&E, History Channel. LIfetime. Pixar. Hollywood Records and 20th century Fox.

Disney will be able to exclusively stream content libraries from all of the above. Plus any and all new content those studios release. In Addition to Disney's own "Disney" content.

Yea some folks are either too ignorant or are drinking too much of Timmy’s apple juice

I think that's a stretch to say. I don't think incidental ignorance of knowing who disney owns is a thing to attack someone over. These conglomerates are constantly changing hands in billion dollar deals that take years. Not everyone pays attention all the time as it can be quite a lot.

Thats why instead of calling people names "ignorant" or "apple juice" drinkers, it's better to inform and let them update their opinions.

I think you’re confused at what Disney is going to put in this service. All content is pg 13 or below. It’s mostly Disney branded content along with marvel and Star Wars. It’s aimed at kids and families. Most of it is stuff you’ve seen with a few new shows made just for this service but will take months if not years to get going.

You’re not going to see lifetime movies. Or espn. Etc. Did you really think that?

Didn’t say I was excited over Apple TV. But have only mentioned that Disney channel plus is basically reruns with a touch of new content aimed at kids and families. It doesn’t matter what they own. Doesn’t mean it will be in this service.

There’s no blowing Apple out of the water when apple can get 30 percent of what Disney is charging on many Apple TV subs. Apple is more than happy to have Disney in the atv app.

Once competition ramps up, and the existing deals disney had previously expired with other publishers, don't be surprised to start seeing this content migrate over to Disney's streaming service.

Lol ok. I think people are going to be disappointed thinking this will replace Netflix. It fills a niche. Kid friendly content.

i'm not sure it'll replace netflix. netflix has it's own share of original content and back library to rely upon for it's business.

Problem Netflix is going to face is that I think they shot themselves in the foot a little with their practice of only running popular shows for 2-3 seasons then cancelling many of them at their height of popularity. With a lot of their biggest hits now over or cancelled, they are going to be relying on a string of content that doesn't have the same hype surrounding it.

For example, some of Netflix's biggest most popular originals were their Marvel "Hells Kitchen" series (Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage). These shows are all cancelled or ending. Orange is the New Black is ending this season. In addition, a lot of their back catalogue contracts are coming due and will not likely be renewed. For example, Friends is a very popular title on netflix. Friends is Time Warner (Warner Media owned by AT&T) and WarnerMedia has stated they will not renew with NEtflix as they want their title back for their own use.

I don't think Neflix is going anywher,e but the days of them being #1 streaming platform with the biggest "originals" is going to be behind them. Once Disney starts migrating their other properties from their extended media family over, Disney+ will likely be the biggest streaming service.

The exception that might be different is if Disney decides to move those other properties over to Hulu instead (Disney also owns Hulu!). Then Disney would effectively have two of the biggest streaming services in the business. I hope they don't do this cause it'll mean 2 possible different fees and services for all of their content. But could happen.

If you still believe that Disney is only kid content, than you're about 30 years out of date on what disney owns and disney produces as a company.

2020-2021. Original content will be king and who comes out on top of the streaming pile. Right NOW, disney company is set to be the largest player with the biggest back library, widest scope of available content producers, and the biggest money to push their streaming service.

This is also what I have been able to ascertain so far. The more I read about it, the less likely I am to subscribe.

If you believe that Disney would dare tarnish that coveted “Disney” name with adult content, I think you’re about 30 years out of date on what Disney is. All of their content aimed at adults is marketed under different (studio) names. As others have stated, this is where Hulu comes into play. If not Hulu, then something else.

Let’s not leave pricing out... that introductory price will last only as long as it takes to get the numbers high enough to get people on board. If it’s Hulu doing the adult content, it will be with ads. My guess is that it will wind up around $14.99 a month with Hulu and ADS.

I agree with you with shows like Sense8 being cancelled by Netflix too soon but the Marvel shows were a strange situation with Disney now owning Marvel. I can kind of see why Netflix wouldn't want to promote brands owned by a rival. It's a shame because those were some good shows.

From what I understand Disney will also not charge additional for UHD content. Of course that may change but as of now no additional charge

My main concern here is that Apple TV+ will limit content availability for Disney. Disney is all about a global audience, and Apple really isn’t. It’s not even worth dreaming about because it makes little sense.

Not sure what you mean. Disney has said that Disney+ will be available in 5 countries when it launches. Apple’s TV app is currently available in 100+ countries. No idea in what countries the TV+ service will launch, but I cannot see how it would limit Disney’s Disney+ rollout.

They have already announced lots of interesting shows, including a Marvel TV roadmap and Star Wars shows. Not at all “basically Disney channel.”

Star Wars and Marvel movies are the most watched movies on earth. Calling them merely “kids and families” programming is cute, but not accurate. They are “pretty much everyone” programming.

If you followed the thread, you would see that I was replying to a hypothetical "If Apple bought Disney"

I got the deal with my D23 account so I paid the 157 (total with taxes) for the 3 years. With a 14,10 and 3 yr old this will get use way more than Netflix and that isn’t a shot at Netflix. Just lots more kid friendly stuff and the older ones love all the marvel and Star Wars movies

Locked in 3 year deal with Disney+ over the weekend. Under $4.00 a month, plus locked. So any increases they *might* have will only hit me and others after 3 years. Great deal!!!

And I chuckle at the “Disney Channel +” and “kiddie shows” comments. See: highest grossing films over the past, say, 10 years.
