Wow. Exact same spot at the other thread. This can't be a coincidence. I will not be swimming with the replacement for sure. I am going to talk with them when I pick it up. Considering it as an incident in not fair. I dont care for the small fees but don't like being charged for a known (kind of) problem.

To be honest, they should have charged you the full price for the watch. It really isn't Apple's problem if you don't understand the ratings of watches regarding water resistance.
It seems as devices are getting thinner, users are getting.....
Without people taking the pi** products could be much cheaper.

hope this happens to you....

Apple watch is IPX7 water resistant, says it in black and white on Apple website.

IPX7 = Protected against water immersion - Immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter.

So unless he's deep sea diving or keeping the watch under water for periods of longer than 30 minutes then don't judge him, we don't know exactly.

No deep sea diving. Just half an hour in pool everyday or so. Couple of laps. Watch maybe under water 5-10 seconds for 7-8 times a day. My pool is 5 1/2 feet deep at the max. I am not blaming Apple or even myself. It just sucks.

And thanks macdady. That's what I understood about rating also.

Pool water has a higher concentration of chlorine than tap water which could be detrimental to the watertight seals. I have a Movado watch that is "water resistant" but I was specifically advised not to wear it while swimming due to the chlorine.

Also the fine print from the Apple site:

"Apple Watch is splash and water resistant but not waterproof. You can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing your hands, but submerging Apple Watch is not recommended. Apple Watch has a water resistance rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529. The leather bands are not water resistant."

Swimming would probably be considered "submerging".

Sorry to hear about your watch....hope it gets sorted soon!

Yeah, this just happened to me too. Exact same location on my 42mm watch face. At first it was a small black blot in the top right with a thin ring of blue. Over the past 36 hours it has expanded to now cover the entire watch face.

Express Replacement via AppleCare+ was ordered last night, but then I found this thread today :( Will follow up with Apple now that I know it's an issue other folks are experiencing too.
