I thought the panel had been upgraded to be brighter/more colors than the original 5K panel--is this not the case? My 2014 and 2020 seem almost identical when compared with each other.

It's not entirely the same. The 2014 was 'only' sRGB, and the new one is the P3 colour space (I think the change happened on the 2017 model?) but other than that it's pretty much the same

My 2017 21.5” suffered from dust under the screen. I hope that doesn’t happen on my 2020 27”.
I think it is bound to happen again. That's why I'm going to buy AppleCare+ and not worry about it for 3 yrs. If it happens within the 3 yrs, then I will get it replaced and consider upgrading to the 2nd or 3rd gen AS iMac...

My 2014 iMac suffers from severe image retention (aka image persistence, not burn-in) at the edges. The 2014 screens, and to a lesser extent the 2015 screens, are notorious for developing this problem. I have not seen reports that the 2017 or later screens have had this issue.

I didn't have AC on my old unit but I will definitely add it to this 27". You would think they could have fixed this issue by now.

Hmm ... it really shouldn’t do that. Did you actually use Safari? There might be something else going on otherwise.
