Why wouldn't they? It's not even unethical. You wouldn't expect them to dig out the very worst example they could find, would you?
Since not many reviewers I recall have ever mentioned half-yellow iMac screens or pink/green tinted iPad 3 screens or light bleed on any product, I'm pretty convinced they do indeed do this. Those problems were/are pervasive across the product line.
Please provide your evidence. Otherwise you're serving up a big bowl of FUD. And yes, it would be unethical - by most people's standards.
"You wouldn't expect them to dig out the very worst example they could find, would you?"
There's no digging involved.
Now that evidence...
My evidence is simply that reviewers never seem to notice screen defects, when consumers notice them in droves. You really think Apple sends out any old box at random? They know there are defects. They are going to put their best foot forward.
That's fine saying that's something you would do. i.e., sending out a test unit that is known to not be representative of the whole, in order to fool customers. But I've seen no evidence Apple engages in that, which would be extremely unethical.
You have still not provided evidence. Instead, you're just serving up a big bowl of FUD.
I hate those smudges too! I now put a clear glass screen protector on my devices and that gets rid of them..... Never was a big fan of screen protectors but I hate smudges more![]()

Unethical would be sending reviewers a product made with better specs just for the purpose of the review. Some manufacturers have actually been caught doing that. This is just picking out the best ones from their actual manufacturing process. They want the iPad with the screen glued down by their star Foxconn employee.
Got it. My ethics are different than yours.
"They want the iPad with the screen glued down by their star Foxconn employee."
More FUD?
I'm sorry, are you not aware of the high degree of variability in the screen quality of Apple products?
Still looking for your evidence that Apple is picking select review units to game reviews in order to mislead their customers.
Imagine the enormous response on tech forums if that were discovered to be true - it would be chum in the water. But you have no evidence. Just a bunch of nonsense speculation to stir the pot trying to cast doubts on Apple's integrity.
Once more: Where is your evidence? You are aware that extraordinary claims require strong evidence, right?
The claim is not extraordinary. Again, do you really think they're sending out a random shrinkwrapped box and crossing their fingers?
Why don't the marketing images on their website ever show common screen problems?
