I think it only states that the best display of iPhone which without yellow tint or disgusting greenish color when displaying gray, is the best smartphone display. However, the ratio of the "perfect" screen is unknown

A DisplayMate review is completely irrelevant. Apple pays DisplayMate for a glowing review. I know this for a fact considering I worked at Google and we paid DisplayMate for a positive review on Pixel.

The review says "iPhone 12 Pro Max Has Best Smartphone Display It's Ever Tested"... how much does it cost to have them say "Best ever"? Why didn't Google pay them to say that?

Have to say the screen is noticeably better than my 11 PM (and I thought that one was great).

I agree with the comments that Google paying DisplayMate doesn't imply that Apple also paid them for a glowing review. It does however put the credibility of any DisplayMate review in question, paid or not.

The phone just keeps getting more and more impressive. The flat screen, fact that it got a bit wider and not just a long skinny phone is nice. Battery life is amazing and amazing where it counts, playing games, watching videos, and taking pics. The flat sides aren't ergonomic but they make holding it when consuming content nice and when pressing the buttons.

Comparing my XS Max to the 12 pro Max I do see a significant improvement in the screen. ( Just from my eyes personal humble opinion <s>)
EDIT:
I forgot to mention that I have True Tone set to off. Having it on has always made it look yellowish to me.

I heavily prefer my XS Max’s screen.

All of the display 12’s had yellow tinted screens at the T-Mobile store I returned my phone to.

BTW, I calibrate my TVs with ISF calibration. I care about calibration. The 12 Pro looked yellow compared to my TVs and iMac, which all have calibrated screens.

Since then I have returned my 12 Pro, with one of the reasons being the yellow screen. The XS Max has much more pop and better white balance. Glad to be home, sorry I abandoned you XS Max.
More than once with past iPhone models some screens had a yellow tint immediately after they were manufactured. I’m pretty sure Apple even addressed this, saying some of the glue needed to fully cure and then the yellow would go away in a short while. I believe that was indeed the case.

lol the whole glue drying thing is a running joke man. There was a glue issue with the iPhone 4 and everyone kind of ran with it and used it as a joke for every subsequent release. its like the whole "safari is snappier" thing.

As a GIG driver I’m seeing shiny new iPhone 12 in drivers hands, with no cases! o_O

The review mentions a 'Super Dim Mode'
Does anyone know what that is or how you enable it?
Currently I use the accessability mode for 'Reduce White Point' when reading in bed, but if there's an acutal mode, I'd prefer that.

What is so "proud" about owning a smartphone? Genuinely cringe every time a see "proud" owner of a gadget.

proud
/proud/
adjective
1.
feeling deep pleasure or satisfaction as a result of one's own achievements, qualities, or possessions or those of someone with whom one is closely associated.

It’s safe to assume he means he feels deep pleasure or satisfaction as a result of ones own possession... being the 12PM.

Cringe away my friend, but you’re cringing about the wrong thing ;)

This would be the only thing I can think of. This solution is a bit more annoying to do than reduce white point, but it works the way you actually want it to, unlike reduce white point.

Wait. Your "proof" that Apple does something is that Google does it? Not sure you know how evidence works.

lol so because Google paid them it means Apple does too?

Google paying for good reviews = Apple must be paying for good reviews??

Forgive me, but it seems that all of you are more than willing to believe that Google paid DisplayMate, but draw the line at the belief that Apple did the same. Both rumors came from the same internet rando claiming to be a former Google employee. There's no proof of anything he said, but your "group-think" doubtfulness seems to start and stop with the Apple portion of the rumor.

What's more likely? 1. Dude's lying about one and not the other, or 2. it's all made up? If any of it was true, he have sourcing for his claim.

Otherwise, people could just make up anything. I know for a fact that Tim Cook eats human flesh because he belongs to the elite Nomnomnom cult. They wear blue furs and googley-eye masks while performing ritualized cannibalism. I used to be a butler for the group leader, Warren Buffet. I saw the list of membership one night when Warren got up to his eyeballs in cobra whiskey and ladyboy hookers. Tim Cook is a Nomnomnommer. FACTS. No one denies this.

It's a fantastic display but they really need to fix the raised black issue, as it absolutely negates the whole point of OLED in dim situations (iPhone 12 Pro Max here). Apollo (reddit app) has an excellent pure OLED theme and now at zero brightness at night the whole screen shows that full grey uniformity like an LED screen. If you bring the brightness just below the sun from control center you will get that green-grey hue (it goes away once you hit zero brightness). Save a pure black image and view it in photos full screen and you'll see this clearly in a dark room at any brightness below 40% or so.

Because this seems to affect all iPhone 12s, I'm hoping this is a software issue that will be addressed in iOS 14.3, but it's just astonishing that it shipped this way when my iPhone XS Max was able to turn off pixels perfectly fine at low brightness.

Also, every time a new phone is launched by anyone, they say the same thing.... "BEST DISPLAY EVER and until our review of this device tomorrow!"

Payola for the win....
