Yes, the manager was within his rights to deny the OP entry. However, considering the clientele that shop at Guitar Center (musicians) he could have cut the guy a break. I'm certain there are punctual musicians, but those that I know are very frequently late.

I'm guessing those going on and on about the benefits of showing up on time are clock punching office workers. I'm also an office worker, and I do try to show up on time, but I'm in a profession that values punctuality.

Not the sort of thing I'd expect to hear from a science teacher. Scientists and engineering types usually reject such silliness.

Science and engineering types are also aware of the margin of error, and of possible calibration differences between various measurement instruments. So "on time" by one instrument could be late (or early) by another. Unless you're going to trace the calibration back to an international standard reference, it's safer to be a little early rather than punctiliously punctual.
