I don't know about you... i'm dissapointed to see windows ads on the macrumors sites each time a login. Anyone else upset? I know its a businesss, but that should be controllable.

I think it's great. Their advertising money is completely wasted.

You should be happy that the folks over at Microsoft are paying MacRumors' bills...it's kind of a waste of money for them, as I'm sure they don't get the return here that they do from other sites.

Lots of users here use Windows apps all the time. What's wrong with it? The ads have an audience and you obviously aren't in it.

I guess it just seems contradictory to me... kind of like seeing an ad for George Bushes Political Campaign on a Democrat's homepage.

If i recall correctly, with Google Ads it is based on the keywords on the page. So, chances are you are viewing a page that contains something in relations to windows.

but he is viewing MR, which shouldn't have much to do with windows, does it?

Companies pay this site to run their ads.

If Windows-related ads bother you enough, then there is an option:
$25/year removes ads on the front page and forums.

Alternatively, you are asking us to turn down much more than $25/year so you don't have to see Windows-based ads. Obviously, we would like 100% Mac ads if that was an option.

I don't want to try to invoke a sob story about how much it costs to run the site, since we're doing ok... but MacRumors does require a lot of resources to stay up as well as it does, and we're spending a fair amount to expand just for the MWSF keynote day itself.

Contributing to MacRumors is the only sanctioned way to avoid ads.

The ads help support MacRumors, as does use of the MacRumors:Shop system.

ha nice plug. pricegrabber is an awesome site actually, one I knew about before this website. Maybe you have noticed this or know the answer Doc, but going to regular pricegrabber and navigating the site is sooo much faster than hitting it through MR, what's the deal?

Good to hear from you Arn, hope all is well. I don't know if anyone pointed your attention to it, but I got into a bit of a debate about the user titles and forum post options. It was actually very productive, but the mod suggested we ask your views; so having run into you.... it is in feedback and under thread titled spam filtering. we can go pm/email if you prefer and need more of the links.

I imagine contributing to MacRumors would be the best US$25 one could spend. It'd be amazing to get no ads and have access to arn's special place.

I've never regretted contributing, but allowing Arn access to my special place has left me feeling violated and dirty.

Of all the things to be concerned about at MR, the source of advertising must rank near the bottom. Arn needs a new pair of shoes... ;)
