Well it makes sense. Starbucks for the most part serves substandard overpriced coffee... sensing a trend there

If unibody design (and hence, reliability), unmatched battery life and OSX mean nothing to you, then by all means, go with the ASUS and watch that piece of plastic die within 12-24 months.

For the extra hundreds of dollars don't you think we should be getting the best of both worlds?

Why don't they lower the price of the mbp to be more competitive?

Uh..because they don't have to?

They'll sell a ton of MacBook Pros, just like they always have, at the current price and with the current specs.

I'm sure they'll miss you. Maybe not.

OP if you dont need macOS and you mostly game & render then you do not need a mbp, windows 7 is good enough now to not spend your money on snow leopard.

Couldn't agree more. I lol'd.

You cant fit everything in that asus into apples unibody structure and still retain the cool temps and good battery life, at least not yet.

Well, you could fit a way better GPU in that's for sure, and plenty else.

Don't overestimate the importance of the size and TDP, it seems this is mostly about profit margins and supplier relationships.

I'll put up with a fair amount of crap to get away from Windows. I need some stuff that exists only in Mac and Windows, not in Linux (yet). So I get Macs. Doesn't mean I don't think they massively overcharge for hardware, or ship sub-par parts and misrepresent them as being better than they are. Just means that, even so, it's still a better deal for me than having to use Windows would be.

Does that Asus run final cut pro and aperture? Can i use those apps for more than 40 minutes between i get that low battery message?

Windows and PCs are so utterly repugnant that it would take a hell of a lot to push me away from the Mac, when Apple release a sh*te MacBook Pro my choice of possible computers is effectively reduced to zero.

And let's face it, it's pretty much only in the spec department Apple fail; software, build quality, services (for the most part) - they're all as good as it gets. I don't even mind paying Apple tax, I just want decent god damn specs for once, and that means across the board, not a nice new CPU and a pathetic little antique GPU that cost Apple $2 from the local junk yard to gimp it down.

Chances of me ever using FCP: Roughly 0. (I do use aperture, though.)

Why would I ever run a laptop on battery power? Power plugs are essentially ubiquitous now.

My Job and my Master Degree program both require the use of Apple products. I do believe I am within my right to express displeasure with Apple even though I use them.

Last time I checked at least there was no contact signed that said because I use Apple products I most only say good things about them.

I was extremely excited about the launch of the new MBP line like everyone else and like a good number of people I am left underwhelmed by the complete package.

That's nothing! Look here. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/895977/

You get called silly for even questioning Apple. :)

Cheers,
