Just bought mine
I don't think you need to wait. The Macbook Pro was re-designed completely already in the last update, so the only thing we should see is ... "for the same price" .... more ram, bigger hard drives, and faster processors... That's how Apple usually rolls. So, right now the 2.53GHZ with 4 gigs and 250 gig hard drive is $1499. They will probably bump it up to 2.8Ghz, 4 gigs RAM, and maybe 320 or 500 gig hard drive for the same price.
Honestly I think that you should definitely spring for the $1499 model instead of the $1199, just because of the better processor if nothing else. You could buy the cheaper one and put your own hard drive upgrade and RAM upgrade in... But the processor is another story.
I haven't decided what DJ software I'm going to use yet, but I did just buy my Macbook Pro, and regardless of what DJ software you use... SERATO IS A MUST, you need the Serato controller with the time coded cd's and vinyls... It works with any DJ software pretty much - including Virtual DJ, Traktor, and Serato. Just because you buy the hardware for Serato doesn't mean you have to use their software.
I used Virtual DJ on Saturday night for a live gig... It worked great, I did not do any beat mixing though... It was just a "corporate christmas party" so I had to mix in Michael Jackson with The Supremes with Journey with 50 Cent, Donna Summer, Lady Gaga, you know how those events go!
Virtual DJ seemed to work well for me... Good thing about VDJ is they give you a 20 day trial. CPU usage is a little high on VDJ, and I added about 20,000 songs from my external drives to the "Seachdb" and it did seem to lag when searching. Ocasionally the screen would freeze when searching, but playback NEVER suffered! I think the application prioritizes playback, so you will never have to worry about it skipping a beat when playing..
Now I need to try Serato (which is what came with my SL1) and I need to try a few others too... but I will probably end up using Virtual DJ due to the robust set of features.
BTW, one drawback to Serato is it has NO auto beat matching. I would never use auto beat match since I've been a DJ for 9 years, but let's face it, if you're a newer dj and you need to take a potty break and you run back with 30 seconds left in the song you might need auto beat match to help you work through a fast mix.
