And on another small note, someone posted a clip here of Cook and execs dancing to an outdoor live music event by Pharrell Williams and my god, do they look dorky doing that.

Dorks in a tech company!?
I'll believe it when I see it!

I do agree though, this kind of misses the point of the watch, but it's cool that it's an option, and it's developers having ideas and trying things out which will help make this stuff more useful.

It's sad that some do not have the vision or ability to imagine innovative uses for new and interesting technology. They only see limitations and roadblocks rather than potential. Fortunately, many do and they're the ones forging ahead with great ideas through a stirred imagination.

The others? Well, there's always safety sitting in a comfy chair with a keyboard ragging on new tech and people who choose to dream a bit.

And one of these innovative uses is...?

I still think the real innovation was supposed to be health sensors and monitoring. That will be something everyone will wear. Just as we're starting to see auto insurers giving discounts after analyzing driving data monitors, we'll have health insurers giving discounts for those that exercise an hour a day, have reasonable blood glucose levels, low blood pressure etc. We are undergoing major changes in the health care field, and that made a lot of sense to me. Additionally, if it was used for some sort of new UI for augmented reality, I could buy that being another game changer. What Apple Watch is, for all I've seen--and I've been looking/waiting as this is fascinating to me, is an expensive watch that gives social media updates.

I don't think you're getting innovation here, but let me know if you find it.

WATCHrumors ??

MR, why not create a section dedicated to Apple WATCH, otherwise just call this WATCHrumors.

Urghhhh... pointless.

Apps like this are just going to lead people to criticism of the battery life.

This is not what the Watch is for.

Geeze, all these "useless" comments.

Djays love having more and different controllers. Figuring out how to use them to contribute and become part of the performance is a creative thing... the challenges are all part of the fun and art of it.

But for now, I think the lag that third-party apps have to live with will keep these from being too useful. It's a live setting and just aren't going to be able to have tight control over anything. Once WatchKit allows native apps, this will be able to go a lot farther.

I wonder if this is really about old guys at Apple. This may just be "Dick Tracy's" watch. From the 30's to the 70's every nerd's dream was to be able to conduct video calls from their wrist. That's, of course, possible with today's technology, along with more advanced stuff like navigation and Siri to answer questions. That's what the Apple Watch is seeming to me.

The issue is that while it seemed amazing in the mid 20th century, now people just take it for granted using the bigger screen of their phones (which they use for all sorts of tasks a tiny wrist watch isn't suitable for).

Traditionally it's been Apple leading the way in innovation, but this feels more like boyhood dream of a baby boomer than anything innovative. Secondarily, I suppose they can hope to spark a fashion fad, bringing back wrist watches as an unnecessary piece of jewelery/ornamentation--who knows?

Best laugh I had this morning. Nice! I'm still not sure if this is a parody or not, but using a flanger on my watch is the funniest thing this morning hands down!

How is it tiresome? I just don't understand.

I agree there have been a lot of articles - some I personally think are unnecessary. Others will be finding them useful. But how is it tiresome?

What's happening to you?

I read the headline - can take a few seconds, but nothing overbearing. And if I judge the article isn't for me I scroll on by.

Are you suffering from fatigue? Some other issue?

MacRumors posts about 10-15 articles a day, if the Apple Watch ones are bothering you I recommend doing something, anything else with your life.

This comment was tiresome.

I'm beyond worn out over this watch. Sorry, but this is one of the worst products that Apple has ever put out. I'm sure it will sell a bazillion copies, but it misses the mark on everything.

Editing music on a watch really??? hold on guys let me ignore you some more by tooling around with my watch and looking at me phone at the same time...

When did pulling out your phone become too difficult?

Apple's HIG says interactions on the Watch should be measured in seconds. Seems like Schiller's org is approving everything and anything just so come WWDC Apple can say they have x thousands of apps already available for the Watch. They really need to be following their own guidelines and not approving some of this stuff.

While it's true that Watch interactions are meant to very quick, who's to say that it wouldn't be used that way?

I don't believe that this app is meant to be used as replacement for the iPhone/iPad/Mac app, but instead in scenarios where you want to very quickly access what's already playing from your wrist. Maybe it wouldn't be useful to you, but I can think of a lot of scenarios where this would come in handy.

Furthermore, just because an app exists, doesn't mean you have to install it on your watch. Who are you to dictate which apps Apple should approve or not?

re: so useless?

Since I've never really worked as a live music DJ, I'm going to refrain from commenting on how useful or useless it is controlling things from the watch.

But it DOES make me think of a great application that's somewhat related... I'd love to see the apps that act as effects processors for electric guitar use the Apple Watch to select effects or adjust them.

When you're playing guitar and using both hands, you can't really do much with the phone or iPad you might have it passed through, and back out to an amplifier and speakers. You could, however, pretty easily tap on the watch on your wrist to make a quick change. Other than using the foot pedals that the "stomp boxes" or dedicated f/x processors provide, it seems like the next best thing.

This is so useless...

OK, that does seem useful. The only thing is, aren't pedals there so you DON'T have to move a hand?

I used to use the original DJay app. when they came out with Djay 2, they disabled the original and you were forced to buy the new app if you wanted to use it. I refused to pay a second time. So now I will download this since its free. Hopefully they don't come out with version 3 and do this all over again.

As for the watch portion of this, I can see this being remotely useful if I am dancing and want to move to the next song, but already will have that with the apple remote. But if my watch ever arrives (i have doubts right now), i will certainly play with this and see how it goes.

Missing out on a great app, if you play at events you should give it a try, it's well worth the money.

If they had made this connect to Djay on the iPad as an extra feature that could be very useful. Many times I have needed to step away for a few minutes, to be able to see how long I had left or if I had to cue up the next track from a distance that could really help. Sometimes I just need to get a drink, or as I run the venue I often play at I sometimes have to deal with a situation for a few minutes, it could be a helpful tool. As a stand alone app to mix with its just a gimmick, I don't doubt it will work but it's similar to voice activated features in cars, sure they work most of the time but it's just easier to push the button, turn the dial, flick a switch, I think I used voice control twice in 3 years and both times just because I was messing about with how it worked.

I do think in time here will be some truly useful apps giving really great features, but for now most of what I'm seeing is just current apps adapted for a different device.

So I understand Shazam and a few other Apple Watch apps. Also getting alerts and other notifications on the watch sort of make sense, but this idea is just dumb and gimmicky.

I'm specifically talking about this one app. No DJ worth his salt is going to forego the control and features available to him at this turntables/mixer/laptop to DJ a show on his watch. The most I can see this being used is in a pinch if the DJ has to step down for a few minutes to handle a situation.

other then notifications, smart watches are useless. NO ONE will ever use apps like these.

the fact that an app like this may be useless does not mean SWes are useless. the activity tracking is my #1 use case, and that lends itself perfectly to a smartwatch.

This is ridiculous. If Apple's goal was to make the watch cut down on distraction, they didn't do a good job of it. This is not what the Apple Watch was supposed to be.

apple didnt make this app. and it's not apple job to tell devs which apps make sense or not.* devs will learn on their own and the failed apps will go away.

* dear lord can you imagine the sheet-storm that would rain down if apple did as you suggested and BANNED apps that it thought were dumb? nuts.

Nooo, this is not what the Watch is for! The Watch is supposed to be about glances, spending seconds. Not minutes. Goes against what the point of the watch is.
But I guess app developers and consumers will have to go through this phase and get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Might even find out my whole idea is wrong and this is the future. But I don't think the point is to go to a smaller screen to do the exact same long tasks as on the iPhone.
