Is PVD still better than aluminium?
Titanium even without DLC is more durable than Stainless SteelSo is SS or Ti the more durable and easily refreshed finish? I have always had Al but want something a little nicer.
With that in mind, is DLC that tough that it’s the better option than plain Ti you can brush out scuffs.Titanium even without DLC is more durable than Stainless Steel.
Yes, however, Titanium (plain) is still more durable than Steel in many ways. With that in mind, is DLC that tough that it’s the better option than plain Ti you can brush out scuffs.
Partial. Ti with DLC is more durable. But Ti without coating places it between the STAINLESS and ALU.Titanium even without DLC is more durable than Stainless Steel

So which is the easiest to maintain in terms of scratches and buffing them out?Edit - If we want a more accurate summary, we’d need to look at certain parts of durability, such as heat resistance, deformation, etc
Hmmm, that’s not entirely correct. Titanium is more durable than Steel and Aluminium. However, more research will be needed to compare Stainless Steel PVD (which is what the Apple Watch uses) to Titanium. I doubt a PVD coating will make it significantly more durable though. At the same time, the Space Black Titanium DLC will be more durable than PVD.
However, Titanium compared to Steel without coatings is more durable and is more corrosive resistant. Yes it can be scratched more easily, but it can be more easily buffed.
‘In comparison, titanium is approximately 3 to 4 times stronger than stainless steel. This makes titanium to have a prolonged lifespan for generations. However, titanium can be easily scratched as it requires a polishing routine or risks its surface to become marred or dull.’
I’d say Titanium, I’ve seen several posts about it being easier to buff out. However, scratching will be a bit easier, but, less noticeable and more likely to being able to buff out. It’s possible that some scratches on Steel will never buff out.So which is the easiest to maintain in terms of scratches and buffing them out?
unsurprisingly as the S6 SS graphite did have DLC coating, that was changed with the S7 ...Anecdotally, FWIW my Graphite SS Series 6 has been just as scratch resistant and as durable as my SBSS Series 0, Series 3, and Series 4. The only mark on any of them was a light dent in the Series 4 when I dropped it on a concrete floor.
I was referring to the doubt posed by some that the S6 was DLC earlier.unsurprisingly as the S6 SS graphite did have DLC coating, that was changed with the S7 ...
Willing to be it did not with series 6. I scratched it with my fingernailunsurprisingly as the S6 SS graphite did have DLC coating, that was changed with the S7 ...
you should not be able to scratch any metal with your fingernails, regardless whether its coated or not ...Willing to be it did not with series 6. I scratched it with my fingernail
Probably. but my SBSS didn't respond to my fingernail, even in bright sunlight. NADAyou should not be able to scratch any metal with your fingernails, regardless whether its coated or not ...
