No way. 15 inch is to big for all the traveling I do.. I also felt like a well spec'd out 13 inch was better and more affordable then a 15 at the time. When it comes to the iMac however, I would totally get the 27 inch over the 21.

Yeah for desktops bigger is better IMHO unless price is an issue.

15" is too big for me; I need my laptop to be highly portable. If it were my only machine, then I might think differently. But since I have a nice desktop both at home and at work, I need the laptop to be mobile.

The last 15" laptop I had was the 15" PowerBook G4 way back when...

it's just no the specs .. don't some of you need a 15 inch screen? .. the extra real estate with Retina? ..

- And not even in all specs. 13" uses faster 1866 MHz RAM, while 15" is still on 1600 MHz. 13" has slighter higher PPI on the screen as well.

Weird thread...

The only reason I have an MBP instead of an Air is the 15 inch screen. My eyes aren't what they used to be, and I need the screen real estate. ("Need" in the sense that I've had a 15 inch screen since my 2002 TiBook, I'm used to it, it suits how I work, I don't mind hauling it around, and a smaller screen doesn't work as well for me.)

If the smaller screen works for you, don't let me hold you back...

I have commented on several threads like this. I am an older IT guy, and I need a very portable, light laptop which I can easily schlep up and down ladders and get into tight spaces on server racks. Maybe I will get the 15 inch when I retire.

Nope, totally fine with the 13".

My 15" i used to have would constantly be hooked up to a monitor when at home. And the 13" won't be any different in that aspect.

The 13" is more convenient for the travel I do (esp. since half the year it's being carried on my back, I motorcycle during the spring, summer, and fall seasons.)

Own 13" and want 15".

I usually use it in dual screen configuration by putting it side-to-side to a 28" external monitor, and the 13" screen is kinda small for this purpose. Though it won't happen, I'd also gladly take a 17" if it's revived :)

Though I do carry it to and from work every day, I don't really use my laptop 'on the go', so the small difference (for me) in portability doesn't justify the loss of screen estate for me. Performance is not really a limiting factor as any heavy work is done remotely anyways in my workflow.

The 13.3" Macbook Pro was the perfect macbook for me at one point. It was more portable, lighter and could handle almost everything I needed to throw at it when away from my desktop. However these days I find the 15.4" being a better portable solution, for me that is. How can the bigger/heavier MacBook Pro be a better potable solution? Simple, I spend a lot of time away from home and don't have the luxury of using a desktop for demanding work these days. If Apple put a Quad Core and DG in the 13.3" I would buy one today, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. For now the 15.4" is the only portable solution I could consider.

Nope. 15" too large and impractical for my needs.

Dell proved you can shrink a 13" laptop into a 11" footprint and a 15" into a 14" footprint, so if Apple can do this with the MacBook Pro refresh, I'd be tempted to look at the 15" model as long as it was still quad-core with a dGPU.

I got the first generation MacBook back in 2006. In 2008 I replaced it with a used 15" MBP. I think I had it for a few months and I never looked back since. The 15" is simply too big (for me) to lug around all day, everyday. Portability is key and for a bigger screen I have mu 27" iMac.

I love my 2012 rMBP, and i've always been a proponent of the 15" form factor. I've owned plenty of 13" laptops in the past and the 15" is a great size. With that said, I've eschewed the use of that in lieu of a smaller Surface Pro tablet. While the screen is smaller and the processor slower. I find it a better tool for most of my mobility needs. At times, I'll bring my MBP with me, but most of the time, its the SP3

I guess regardless of what the OP said, not one model is inherently better, its which tool best fits your needs

I own a MacBook Pro 15'' mid-2010, which I plan to substitute with a 13'' Skylake one if it will ever be released.
When I bought the 15 it was perfect for my needs, but now I want something more portable and lighter. The 15'' one has became an hassle to transport lately.
The best compromise would be a device with size comparable with the current 13'' but with bigger screen with reduced bezels, but I don't see Apple going in that direction.

Not at all. I've owned two 13" MBP's, one a 2009 model that got destroyed by a family member, then the 2015. Love them.

I even switched my work machine from a 13" to a 15" given that I walk anywhere from 2-6 miles per day here at work.

Nope. $500 less and the 13" doesn't take up nearly as much table space as the 15"

I totally agree, which tool fits you best. My company bought me an SP3, I used it for a month, and ever since I have had it hooked up to a 29 inch Asus monitor and it serves as a desktop into which I RDP. Very nice fit and finish, but just wasn't a usable portable device for me.

Bought my rMBP 13" few weeks ago and I'm pleased with it. Right, bigger retina screen sounds great, but I found myself carrying my 13'' around my house all-day-long. I mean everywhere. I've had 15" for few days and it was always, I mean always plugged, just because I found smaller footprint much more fun to carry around, that's it. I'd feel with 15" like I would lost something, I'll use it a bit less I think.

I just bought my first mac and went with the 15" for two reasons:

1) I borrowed a 13" macbook from work to test out compatibility with my DJ equipment and found the screen to be a bit small. Having a bigger screen to read track listings is so much clearer and comfortable with the 15". Ok, I must admit my eye sight is bit lacking.

2) My work computer was a Surface Pro 3 and found myself squinting to read text on it. I eventually upgraded myself to a Surface Pro 4 (i5 8 GB RAM) with a slightly bigger screen, but still found the screen way to small to deal with small print. I eventually upgraded myself again to a SP4 (i7 16 GB RAM) just yesterday but that does nothing to address the squinting...so sometimes I will bring my personal 15" macbook with a Windows VM to work on which is much more comfortable than the SP4's screen.

TLDR: If you stare at a screen like I do for live performances or for work, go with the 15", otherwise if you are young and have good eyes, go with the 13".

I think about it sometimes. But I think it is too big. Kind of bulky for moving around. It could be a good desktop replacement, but a 15" monitor is on the low side. I hook up my 13" to an external monitor when I want to use a desktop. This way I get the portability of the 13" and bigger screen when need be via an external monitor.

I do the same. I can leave the monitor at the office with a keyboard and mouse and plug in my 13 inch MBP.

Yeah it's a really good setup. What kind of monitor are you using? I have a Dell right now. It's OK. Not bad, nothing great. Am waiting for Apple to update their external monitor.
