I have the display on, except when in sleep
or theatre mode. Battery life's a non issue for me, I never run out of battery during the day.

I can't imagine turning off the AOD. Especially when I'm tied up in a long business meeting. A casual glance down at my wrist is likely to go unnoticed, but bringing the watch up to my face to light the display every few minutes is going to be perceived by other attendees as a passive-aggressive way of saying "let's finish this meeting already!"

It doesn’t seem to have much effect on battery life, though it probably does depend on the screen chosen to some extent.

My AOD turns off during the night and then back on in the morning and the battery doesn’t appear to degrade significantly faster.

It obviously uses more power, but it’s less than I expected.

I suspect the more likely reason is SE, S3, and S4 devices still in use.

I have a different smartwatch, but no, I don't keep Always On mode on because it drains battery and most of the time I can just flip my wrist to check the time no problem. I'm also concerned about screen burn.

I turned mine off when I realized I isn’t like seeing it go from dim to bright and preferred black to on. Came from a 4 to an 8.

I used to use Always On Display because I figured it was safe or Apple would not have implemented it. Then I saw some reports of burn-in after a few years of use. These were highly anecdotal accounts but I am just too worried to keep using the feature. I really miss it. :(

I have AOD turned off on my AW6. I just can't handle the battery drain. Disabling AOD means the difference between enough battery and not enough battery to get through the day.

I dont have that experience. Perhaps you run allot and when AW checks the heart rate often it wears down the battery. I am at 45% battery power and its 8PM MST.

I have an automation set up to turn the AOD on at 8am and off at 11pm. I wear my S7 24/7, except when I'm showering...then it's on the charger. Never had to worry about battery life.

How do I setup automation?
Personal Automation in the Shortcuts app.

(This one turns it on. You'll need another one to turn it off.)

I always have it disabled on my ultra. It saves power, I see almost no reason to have it enabled. Only thing I can think of is measuring heart rate, there it can be a bit annoying that the display gets turned off.

Edit: having it disabled also gives me a little sense of privacy.

I do run a lot, and I bike a lot too. It could be in workout mode 90-120 minutes per day.

My AOD is on because the hit on the battery life is insignificant to me and it helps with quick glances. I’ve also seen most people have it on here in London.

Without the AO feature, I would not have an AW.
Only this gives me the feeling of wearing a 'real' watch - kind of.
All my friends and family who have an AW have the AO feature enabled.
I do not look at strange people's wrists that much.

I have AOD enabled on my series 5 AW.
Never had any problem with it, works nicely (easy to glance discreetly at the watch to see the time), and battery life is still more than enough to last the entire day for me.

No idea whether others have AOD on or not as I tend not to pay attention to people’s watches as a general rule.

Almost every time I see someone with an apple watch (which is almost daily) the always on feature is not enabled. Perhaps many choose to turn it off or perhaps the SE model is very very popular in Denver, CO I dont know. What do you say? Same experience in your city?
I don’t like how it looks and turning the useless feature off is worth even 15 extra minutes of battery

Edit: ill clarify that its useless to me because i only see the screen when actually raising my wrist anyway so it’s not being seen when always on
