Dunno whether I'd call it an issue, but the Air is fine in my bedroom, which is about 20 feet from the router, but not in my living room which is about 50 feet from the router.

Have to keep in mind that the house is not like US homes, but built with bricks and concrete, and I have 2 9inch walls between router and living room. Dell works fine in the same spot, and that's why I was wondering if MBAs have a slightly poorer reception. If I move even to the adjacent sofa in the living room, it works fine on the Air too.

my american home is built with brick and concrete and i have no wifi issues

yes it is definitely weaker. At my previous home I could not get ANY connection from my desk with the MBA even though my junky Toshiba was fine. I tried from my bed and it was marginally better. Finally had to move my desk to a random corner in my room and it boosted my speeds. Basically from the original spot I was getting like 2 mb/s download speed if lucky, from my bed around 12 mb and it was still sketchy from here, but in that random corner it was around 25-30.

I've since moved to a new home and the router is much closer so I get around 35-40 mb/s.

It depends on which network i'm connected to, i have a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz running. Mostly on the 5Ghz the range is significantly worse due to limitations on the 5Ghz band. Throughputs on 5Ghz is about 120MB/20Mb and on the 2,4Ghz which covers a wider area i get around 90/10.

It also depends if you have lots of neigbouring networks visible which work on the same channel as yours, it's not always the receiver who is to blame. And yes that's even taken in account the fact that some say, but i have a crappy toshiba here which functions fine, it doesn't say anything.

Try switching a channel on your router and what would greatly enhance coverage and even speed, switch it back to the G (disable N) technically the 300Mbit theoretical value you are not getting that even by a long shot.

Using a wireless mouse or headset? Those also can interfere with your connection.

And remember kids, having an excellent signal will not guarantee a decent speed. On my old Windows 7 PC when i have full signal i had around 70kb/s speeds, i changed some things including a channel and i had 2 bars (out of 5) but without problems i was getting 7 to 8mb/s :p
