The only thing I preferred about the 3GS was the functional proximity sensor. Even the antenna-gate isn't that big of a deal once you get used to it. But I cant get through a 5-minute call without either muting it, turning the speaker phone on, or accidentally dialing one of my contacts.

Same here. Even after the 4.1 "fix" it is just as bad. The verdict is, either I don't know how to hold my phone properly or my ear shape is incompatible with this wonder device. It's just odd to me that my ear shape and the way I hold the phone changed the day I switched from my 3gs to the iphone 4.

I've been using my 4 without a case since June and the build quality is very impressive. The back doesn't scratch up as easily and there are no hairline cracks like on the curved back of my 3GS. After a wipe the phone looks brand new, and I'm not babying it.

The design and quality of the casing make other phones seem like they're in a different category. I used to think HTC made some really beautiful hardware but their new phones just look outdated to me now.

I wouldn't want to drop the 4 but I've never been too eager to drop any smartphones.

So even with the 4's camera and screen the 3GS would seem like a step down to me.

Not at all. I'll take the better screen, camera, reception, over the 3GS any day.

my girlfriend uses my old 3GS and it really don't like using it anymore, the screen on the 4 is such an improvement. I much prefer the flat back shape also.

After a week or so...and if I ignore the hardware problems I've been having...I do love the feel and the screen of the ip4 but simple things like Wi-fi and the camera worked a lot better on my 3GS...speed wise they also seemed the same on 4.0, 4.02...I kinda miss my 3GS?

I sold my 3GS. I love the new screen, camera and the design. Although I feel the 3GS was more tougher because of the plastic back.

Agreed.

I only prefer the 3GS' Wi-Fi reception. The iPhone 4's Wi-Fi reception, is as poor as the iPad's.
I'm wondering - is it an A4 chip issue, with regard as to why both the iPad and iPhone 4 suffer in this way?

I would say it is your router.

The iP4 wifi receptions is exceptionally good.;)

I think the iPhone 4 is a great improvement over the 3GS. The high res screen still tickles my fancy. :)

I really like the design itself, but thinking about it again, I slightly preferred the roundness and smoothness of the 3GS.

I love the way my new IP4 feels......feels solid, and it looks really really sharp. I have not had any hardware issues so that helps :D

I am 99% sure the screens are the exact same size.. apple's website should have the dimensions to both the iP4 and 3gs. I am just to lazy and busy at the moment to go look..

absolutely not

even though the 3gs still a great phone, compared to the 4 it looks like an outdated piece of tech to me

yes it does... isnt that sad?

Two years ago I had a samsung omnia, which was a nice phone in its time. It had a 5mp macro camera when the 3g only had a 2mp. But even then, the screen resolution of the omnia was complete crap compared to the ip3g. Now today the ip4 makes the 3g/s look like complete garbage. Just a couple months ago, I thought my 3gs was the best piece of electronics I've ever owned. And yet its now disgusting compared to the ip4.

Although the feel is nicer on the 3gs. The curved back does conform nicely to your hand. But on looks alone, the ip4 is such a slick piece of phone.

they are. the ip4 is just a more slender phone.

wow, surprised to see people preferring the 3gs. I can't stand the plastic back, it drove me crazy. So glad to be using a 4 now.

Srsly? How do u explain me sitting on my sofa last week with my 3GS, and now with the 4 in the same spot I have issues...not all of us sit on top of their wifi router...

-J.-

Seriously? How do you explain my old 3G loosing wifi as I go out to my driveway but my iP4 holding a wifi signal 3 houses down? (BTW it is wireless N ;) )

Not everyone has an outdated router.

the white 3gs is so much more beautiful than the cold iP4:D
Two types of beauty. :)

That said; I've come to appreciate the flatness of the iP4, while finding the curviness is more suited to the Touch. Apple have found the right balance. (assuming you were to pick an iPhone as a 'phone and an iTouch as an mp3 player, with little crossover)

i switched from a 3G -> 3GS shortly after the 4 came out... at first i stayed away from the 4 due to it's new shape, then after messing around with one @ the Apple store i knew i wanted one, several calls to Radioshack (i did the swap program..) and AT&T they allowed me to upgrade to the 4, which was about 6 weeks ago and i am seriously digging the 4.

wife still has the 3G, at times i pick it up -while i still dig the 3G's shape, it feels bulky for some reason.

i agree with McBeats; "iphone4 for life! (well... for for the next year, then iphone5)"

No chance.

The 3G/3GS feels bulky in your hand and cheap in comparison, I could never go back to worrying about that hellish chrome bezel or plastic back.

And I can't look at the old display. It's frightening how bad it looks when you've become accustomed to the Retina Display.

The screen is no smaller but the iPhone 4 is so much narrower it can create the illusion it is.

Yes. If I could I would go back to a 3GS.

Buddy and I were sitting next to each other in a meeting a few weeks ago. He had two bars on his 3GS and I had one bar. He could make a call and get data. I couldn't.
