I've had one of these cases for about a week, and it's already discolored and tearing. And I take very good care of my devices.

Garbage.

I've had the black one since Jan and has not torn. It did however developed small little blisters on the right side. Don't know how and why since it wasn't like that before.

Take it back, or call up. I knew it would discolour but not to the extent what it's worn. Oki also look after it well, and don't use this case 24/7 anyway. The reason I asked this time for The silicone to try.

For those who keep trying to explain the wear by "this is a normal patina" or "Apple says it will change in color", that doesn't make it ok.

This is NOT a normal patina. This is Apple's very SUPERFICIAL leather layer wearing away prematurely under normal use. You can clearly see that the top dyed layer is wearing away to reveal either a black leather layer, or a black substrate on which the leather was attached.

If you have owned fine leather before, this is NOT how it behaves. Normal patinas don't reveal black substrates.

I wouldn't mind a normal patina, but this simply isn't the case.

Exactly, I have had my wallet for over twenty years and it was my fathers before that(I got it after he died) and while it is wearing on the corners it still doesn't have holes and it lives in my back pocket.

I know the Apple case has to be very thin leather to make the case slim but while I'm happy enough with it I am still not convinced it is real leather.

Funny thing is is that I was in the Apple Store returning my red leather case and the guy I spoke to had a navy leather case on his phone and it had some lovely marking on it. I asked him to swap it with my 3 week old navy leather case and he said "no thanks, I like it the way it is and prefer it to the new look"

Do Apple exchange leather case if it's worn?

Support agreed, had to send the photos to "engineering" dept first, then end of week will send me a new one, confirming later in week...

Dang! My wife had the soft pink case which wore just like that. Pink looked far worse because of the contrast between the dark, grubby corners and the intact light pink areas.

At first I tried cleaning it - no luck. So I just bought her a clear case. I'm now busy trying to strip the pink-pigmented surface coating off with acetone and other solvents. Plan is to dye it a darker color (black or dk. blue/brown) straight onto the natural leather surface. We'll see how that goes, but the pink coating is proving incredibly tenacious on the flat back surface. Wish the corners could've been like that! :)

It came and all is good... Never say never....

Glad it worked out for you. Guess I've missed the boat.

(And yes, there are too many pessimists on here lately, falling over themselves to pronounce the patient dead! Hope they don't go into medicine :) )

Have you tried cleaning it with baby wipes?

I wouldn't use wet wipes. They typically have all sorts of ingredients, often the main one being some sort of citrus.

A proper leather cleaner / conditioner would be a better choice. And as a bonus you get to use it with handbags, shoes etc.

Didn't say wet wipes. J&j baby wipes moisturise pretty well. But yes a decent leather cleaner works better

Patina varies with material, but any soft stuff is going to abrade away eventually. Perhaps some super durable hard stuff like paper? ;)

Leather is leather, but a leather case that costs that much should be of high enough quality in dye and manufacturing process to preserve coloration despite extensive wear. I totally get why you would want a replacement.

I prefer leather for a lot of personal items including shoes, purses, chairs, car seats, etc. And I actually really like the Apple leather case. I like the light weight design and the way it fits the phone precisely with buttons all nice and clicky. However, I think the quality of these cases is crap. First of all, at the store, I looked at 4 cases before finding acceptable quality. I get that leather will have blemishes. But I'm talking poor quality in manufacturing - like bumps under the leather and puffed up places on the edges.

Then as careful as I am - which is very careful, the case just doesn't hold up. First case got a big indentation down the length of it from being in a flipbelt. I couldn't get the dent to work out. Then my next one after taking it off when using the flipbelt, started fraying on the edge by the volume buttons. And within a week the bottom inside edges were completely worn off. I purchased another case and it showed some fraying after putting it on the first time. So as much as I think this is my favorite case, I'm done.
