The tech enthu crowd on internet first spotted what a disaster Windows 8 was even before launch. Few months later, most websites picked up on that and now we have "Windows 8: Good vision, flawed execution and flawed product". That caused bit of damage to Microsoft's reputation.

Now, We have seen so many complaints of iOS 8 instability and UI sluggishness at places on Macrumors forums. My iPad Air itself reboots few times a day with BSOD on iOS 8.0.2. So much that I hate to use it. So it is very much possible that Apple's reputation might permanently get tarnished if they don't fix the damn iOS 8. Apple has just 2-3 months to get things right otherwise I can accurately predict that Apple will become like Microsoft within 2 years as general perception of common people changes.

Software is life. A good software can uplift a product where hardware designs can get more or less similar to other products.

So what does Macrumors think?

Depends on what you think by "geeks".

BS. There were essentially zero complaints here about 7.1.2. I MARVELED at the lack of complaints here a month ago. iOS8 is a mess, period.

7.1.2 was a beautiful thing and people should be able to revert and not treated like children.

Absolutely agree.

Not like Apple are giving hardware away on the understanding you use their latest software.

Forcing people to move away from an OS version that is barely a year old is bad practice.

Really???????

All I remember from 7.1.2 is that no one could get it to finish installing properly and had to resort to interrupting the installation and rebooting and hoping that the device came back to life.

And for tons of people, all they ended up with was a paperweight that looked oddly like an iPhone.

I'd hardly call that a lack of complaints.

Now, if you're trying to say that after getting through a very rough and rocky installation that few people had trouble with the update if their phone was fortunate enough to still be working, then perhaps that is a different story.

Right. Some people, more than one, had trouble with the installation. you're correct in that it could be a few or tens of millions, we don't know. But given the sheer number of devices there will always be those that have issues.

I think Apple had to add a lot of new features because let's face it, iOS was severely lacking in some areas. Under Forstall, changes were very slow in coming. I think you forgot about how bad Apple Maps was under Forstall and how he refused to apologize for it.

No I didn't forget. Apple maps was kinda crummy yes, but in context I was referring to overall ios stability. The more changes the more bugs and messiness. Apple can do that, but since they are yearly release cycle it's a very confining timeline.

Ok its probably not the most buggy release ever, but in comparison to iOS 7 it seems in my experience to be more buggy :p

No way. iOS 7 was way worse compared to iOS 8 at the beginning. You can't compare iOS 7.1 which was nice and stable to iOS 8.0.2. If the current state of iOS 8 is any kind of reference, iOS 8.1 will be way better than iOS 7.1.

at least one could use google maps as an alternative for the Apple Maps.

there is no alternative to this mess of an iOS release other than jumping ship.

how long after ios 7, was ios 7.1 released? I think it was like 6 months or so after 7.0 hit the street.

You think after a month, when 8.1 is probably released today, that 8.1 will fix everything? I hope so, but not counting on it.

iOS 7.0 was perfectly stable for me on launch day on a 3 year old iPhone 4. iOS 8 on a 1.5 year old iPhone 5 is a buggy mess for me. I'm not talking about performance. Sure iOS 7 was slower but it wasn't buggy. i certainly hope iOS 8.1 will speed up performance on A5 and A6 devices.

Really? 7.1.2 was the FINAL version of iOS 7 - It was the 10th public iteration of iOS 7 - 7.0.0, 7.0.1,7.0.2,7.0.3,7.0.4,7.0.5,7.0.6,7.1.0,7.1.1 were all before. You can't compare iOS 8.0.2 stability with iOS 7.1.2. That's comparing apples and oranges and you know it. You are just trying to make al lopsided comparison. You can compare it with 7.0.2, though.

iOS 8.0.2 is the THIRD public version of iOS 8. There will probably at least 7 more - maybe more if we see an 8.1 and an 8.2 and an 8.3 also like the rumors say. Stop complaining iOS 8 is still in it's baby stages. When we were at iOS 7.0.2, people would be crying out the gazoo just like you are right now.

You didn't have to upgrade. I didn't upgrade any of my devices and I am still happy on iOS 7.1.2 :).

Shame me you if you fool me once, but shame on me if you fool me twice... You got fooled twice incase you didn't get the reference.

That is absolutely untrue. Many people with legit complaints reveal their names especially on twitter and facebook.

Last time I checked, Macrumors is not Twitter or Facebook. And Facebook and Twitter are about being you - that means the premise is to not be anonymous from the start. I see many more complaints on Macrumors and Reddit than on Facebook or Twitter. In fact I have never seen anyone complain about iOS on Facebook.

I think Apple users complain more because we expect excellence. Back when I was a Windows user, it was just a normal part of my life for my computer to be completely unusable until I futzed around with it for half a day. It was a dark time. Registry hives needed to be rebuilt…*shudders*

That very much describes the iPhone 6/6+ landscape keyboard with the "shortcut keys" that just get in the way.

This needs to happen at least by 8.2!
