Perhaps I'm just used to "old ways", but I believe it's a good idea to power down and restart, at least once every two or three days.

Just cleans everything out and gives you a literal "fresh start"....
 
I agree with ME but XP? Always found that to be a great OS. Vista only lasted an hour on my machine before getting wiped and back to XP!

Only reason ME and Vista had issues: 98 drivers didn't work in ME, XP drivers didn't work in Vista.

2k drivers worked in XP, Vista drivers worked in 7.

Driver problems are the biggest cause of issues when Microsoft releases a new OS. If most drivers are compatible going in, people like the OS. If drivers are mostly incompatible then people get a sour taste and the OS tanks in popularity.
