Make extensive use of it to sync files between my window machines and my macs. Also use it to distribute software builds to customers and for customers to update their websites on our servers:
instead of having FTP running we set their website up as a shared Dropbox folder with them and then updating their website is as simple as copying some files into a folder

So you're saying there's something wrong with wanting an official statement from the Dropbox website, to substantiate your statement? Surely you know how much misinformation exists on the web. That's why I'm always happy to post links to my information sources, so people don't have to take my word for it. I would not presume to expect people who don't know me personally to simply assume I can speak with authority for another business with which I have no official affiliation.

Simply posting a link would have sufficed. Asking for one wasn't an attack on your credibility. It's too bad you take it as such.

That is a big load and you know it. Every time anybody around here questions anything at all you post you get defensive and start in with all your multi quote responses. A simple Google search would have verified what I posted, but you instead demanded proof. Just stow it.

Me too, I synch between my phone, macbook pro, windows PC and work. I find it quite useful for larger files I need for my job too.

I use dropbox, a free account with a few referrals and using it as my iphone camera photo backups - I have 5.2gb.

DropBox is one of my favourite apps ever.

I use it for all my university work on my MacBook so it's available on campus PCs hassle free.

It's also a great way of quickly sharing large files with people.

I have 14.2GB from referrals and DropQuest :D

It's provided a new workflow for me that I cannot do without. I pay to get 50GB, but that allows me to sync everything I need to.

Love it.

Quit being overly sensitive. He posted a very reasonable request, and you've snapped and blown it way out of proportion. Just because you've got some personal vendetta against GGJ doesn't excuse something like this.

I use it extensively too.

I synch project files between my desktop and my laptop so I can work on them regardless of whether I want to work in the office or somewhere else in the house or outside the house.

I also use DB to synch files between members of a couple of different groups I belong too.

My wife and I also use DB (we each have our own accounts) to store articles/photos/documents that we think the other person may find interesting. Over breakfast I can tell her I dropped an interesting article on gardening into the Dropbox.

Use Dropbox everyday for both work and pleasure. I've used a couple others like Sugar Sync but always come back to dropbox. Its great say I need a file thats on my iMac but I'm in a hurry. Just drag it over to Dropbox. Then I can grab it on my Android, iPad, or ANY PC. You can always log into your dropbox account via their website.

Sensitive much? I didn't demand proof; I asked for a link. I had done a Google search (as evidenced by the quote I posted, which came from the search results) but didn't find what I was looking for. I thought it would be quicker to ask for a link, since I assumed you would know where that information was. I forgot who I was talking to, though. I should have known there would be drama.

When someone challenges something I've said, I frequently post links to my information sources. The majority who are active in this forum have seen my posts, which are well known (notorious?) for including links to my sources. I've even made this statement before.
I post links so people can see the source of my information, rather than simply taking my word for it.

Yes! I have it on my MBP, iPhone, both iPads, on my PC laptop and desktop, and I even had it on my old Blackberry. Its such a great way to transfer files, I have all my friends using it. Now if only I could figure out how to generate a URL for a file when its on my MBP, I'll be set! Do I have to go to the website for that?

Is my files public on dropbox?
if so how do i make them private?

no, they are all private, except the public folder or any other file or folder you decide to specifically select to share w/ someone.

It makes iCloud look like a retarded stepchild.

IMO DropBox is the most transparent of all the storage and file sharing services. It's the least intrusive and confusing to the recipient of a shared file. It just works. I'm on 10.6.8 and never had a problem. For the free handful of gigs I would recommend it to anyone.

Yes!!!

A great way to share files across multiple devices and between friends and colleagues. Shame Apple don't provide something similar through iCloud

Also have a Microsoft Skydrive and although it's not as slick as Dropbox I have 25GB of free storage.

A great feature of Dropbox is versioning. You can click on a file and get its history, and access previous versions. Very handy.

What new users should remember is that Dropbox acts like any old folder on your Mac. It's not like some of Apple's previous offerings, like iDisk, that acted like a volume (or disk).

It's free; you really should try it. Apple has a long way to go to match it's usefulness.

This is a nice feature. You can create a symlink to your Documents or any other folder and the contents of the original folder will sync to Dropbox without moving the folder. You can create the symlink in Terminal, or (much easier) use the free app MacDropAny.

Dropbox is brilliant. I use it for work, sharing files with family and backing up important folder structures on my computer too.

This new photo uploader looks really good at getting my photos off my android phone and onto my computer too!

Shame the 3GB is only for 12 months though.

From the info on this page it looks like the 3GB is lifetime and does not go away.

The email I received said this:

Hi xxx,

Congrats on becoming a Dropbox Guru! We've awarded you 3 GB of bonus space for the next 12 months! You now have 58.75 GB of space. Thanks again for supercharging your HTC phone with Dropbox.

Enjoy,
- The Dropbox Team

It's given me 3gb in one go rather than 500mb per 500mb upload so maybe they've changed the T&Cs?
