Hi,

do have this issue a long time. But in actual Monterey it is still existing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong - but I don't think so.

What happens:
During conf. calls with Zoom, Teams, WebEx,... I still get notification sounds (new mail, new iMessage, ...).

Is there any chance to mute those sounds during calls.

The sound are still there even when I enable 'do not disturb' from the menubar.

It's really annoying. One workaround is to plug in headphones during calls - but then the sounds will get to my headphones.

I thought when I enable 'do not disturb' all the notifications (including sounds) are disabled?!

In the olden days, yes, but with Focus, your DnD Focus might be configured incorrectly.

Settings > Notifications & Focus, click Focus tab. Click on DnD Focus and see if you have apps defined, certain individuals that can break through. Time Sensitive notifications turned on/off (believe Mail is not considered Time Sensitive but if listed as an allowed app...).

Thx for the feedback.

Everything is disabled (even calls, urgent stuff,...) and Focus DnD is fully active.

But I still get notifications during meetings. Tried it on 3 different Macs. All the same.

Anyone can help?

Just found out, that it does not happen only during meetings. It's a general problem within macOS.

DND/Focus Mode active = sound notifications are not muted!

These are not really notifications, they are in-app features. Once Teams is running, it can and will pop up whatever notifications it likes, regardless of whether Teams notifications are switched off in MacOS. The reason why they do NOT pop up during some calls is because Teams can be configured to prevent in-app notifications during presenting or when on Teams own 'DoNotDisturb' setting.

I mean the notifications from macOS Mail.app, Outlook, iMessage app,....

Even when 'do not disturb' is active I can hear those annoying sound notifications.

Might help if you screen grabbed what the Focus looks like. Don't have to click on the People tab, but a grab of the Apps tab and Options could be of help. Otherwise, everyone is guessing.

Odd. Looks good.

Might try toggling "Allow Also" under People to something then back to Noone.

Or delete Focus entirely and recreate.

Thx for the feedback. Doesn't help.

I don't want ANY of system sounds/notifications coming up, while using FOCUS/DO NOT DISTURB.

Is this a big bug within macOS systems or am I doing anything wrong?

Do you have "no sounds/notifications" coming in, while on FOCUS mode?

Even when sending a iMessage I get this sounds.

Two different problems.

Focus is not meant to silence the device, just stop in-bound notifications. Silence system sounds, need to hit the mute function key or go into Settings to silence system sounds.

Otherwise, works as advertised for me: in-bound is silenced, but out-bound system sounds still occur.

Inbound notifications still there.
iMessage, eMail, Outlook,…

I do have long online meetings and during that time I don’t want inbound iMessage notifications and mail sounds.

That’s what I‘m expecting from a dnd/focus mode!

Anyone else, who can help here?

I'm still getting sound notifications even when DND is active. I'm talking about inbound sound notifications like macOS Mail, iMessage, Outlook,...

Focus Mode/DND is active and those sound still come in?!

Any news on this? Even with 12.1 I do get sound notifications while DND is active. It's so annoying!

I know it's not of any help - but you're not the only one with this issue!

I did a clean install of 12.1 the other day, and it fixed the issue for about 2 hours. Then my M1 iMac started chiming away again to notify me of every email when I'd told it not to disturb me...

I think it must be a bug in the OS which we'll have to wait for Apple to fix and no amount of fiddling with the settings is going to help. In the meantime I've just taken to turning the volume down when I'm busy, though obviously this doesn't help if I need sound for a call etc., in which case I'll just have to close Mail.

It's annoying and I'm sure it'll get fixed one day, but for now I'm trying not to let it disturb me!! ?

Thx for your feedback.

Hope the issue will be solved in near future as it's really annoying. Do have a lot of calls and those "bings" are so annoying.

It’s an unfortunate issue with macOS Monterey…
We have to make apple acknowledge the issue. To do so:
- If you are part of public beta or have a developer account go to http://feedbackassistant.apple.com/
- Contact Apple Support and insist on having a kind 2-nd level tech support that will report the issue to Apple. Insist on making follow-up calls.
- Go to https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html to send a feedback

The more we’ll be to report this bug with the more possible ways, the more likely will apple fix this annoying bug…

Hi BSMR,

Im experiencing the same annoying thing. This is how i fixed it. I just completely stopped Mail from making any sound at all. By opening the mail application. Then in te left top corner Mail > Preferences > General and then you can use dropdown for notification sound to play for incoming mails. I just selected none and then also not to play any other sounds (checkbox below it).

Hope it helps.

For me the issue occurs only on my new M1 Macbook Pro, I have no such issues on Macbook Pro 2018, even though they have the same version - 12.1

I stand corrected. On both Macbooks the problem appears, so it is the issue of 12.1 :(

It already was there with 12.0.

Really hope, that one of the next updates will solve this issue, as it's really really annoying!

Thx for the feedback. I know how it works, but for me it's only a small workaround, as I need notifications from mail.app from time to time.
As well as notifications from other apps. But when I activate DND I want it to be totally silent.
