Don't know, why no one else is complaining about... It annoys me every day.
Don’t understand it as well…
As I said above, please flood Apple with reports (and keep complaining publicly). With Apple that’s the only way to getting things fixed:
- If you are part of public beta or have a developer account go to http://feedbackassistant.apple.com/
- Contact Apple Support and insist on having a kind 2-nd level tech support that will report the issue to Apple. Insist on making follow-up calls.
- Go to https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html to send a feedback

I keep complaining it as you can read it over here...

And yes - I sent reports to Apple. No need to say it again and again to me.

Oh sorry ?. Didn’t realise you were the OP. I thought you were a new poster…

Well today's 12.2 update did not fix this issue. And the issue isn't just with the mail app. The problem occurs with iMessage and FaceTime as well. You used to be able to silence all of these apps when you lock your screen. You can no longer do this. And its very annoying with the mail app with focus on. I'm sick of being woken up by my Mac because of a new mail sound.

Of course 12.3 beta 1 doesn’t solve the problem and Feedback Assistant still shows « Recent similar report: None ».

I can’t understand how more than 6 months after the first beta of Monterey they can let such a HUGE BUG when Focus mode is advertised as an improvement to the old Do Not Disturb to better manages notifications (and still cannot understand how this thread is only 2 pages long… Does nobody uses that feature? Quite hard to believe…)

Don’t understand why all big mac websites are NOT talking about?!

Maybe they’re only making reviews because they’re paid for ??

Just found this thread. This email chime still happening when Focus is on, is infuriating. I have had to simply close apple mail when leading meetings on Zoom or Teams. Hope this is fixed asap.

Did you fill a feedback and/or complaint to Apple (see #26 )? That's the only way we could get them to consider fixing it...

Maybe it will help, when someone will report it to "Macrumors-Team", so that they write an article about it... It's so annoying

Yes I tried it.

Also using several machines. It does not help and it is not related to one machine...

This only happened to me once I did the update last night and now I'm regretting it. I want the sounds when DND is inactive but they come through regardless and I have so many work meetings that it's driving me crazy hearing that stupid ding sound!

I was searching for a solution for this online and found this thread.

This happened to me from day 1 when I got the M1 Air and for the longest time I played with the Focus settings thinking I must be doing something wrong, this is Apple and things just work. Apparently not. My iPhone is silenced by Sleep / Do Not Disturb, but not my Mac.
The only workaround I found so far is to manually quit all the apps and mute the sound before going to bed.
Really waiting for a fix to this.

Yes it's really really annoying! Much worse than previous macOS versions.

Such a stupid thing this Focus setting!

+1. Just got a M1 13'' MBP w/ latest version of Monterey and all the beeps from everywhere are driving me nuts. Looks like DND only works for visual notification, not sounds.

I am having the same issue - I recently purchased a 2021 MBP, Monterrey 12.2.1 - upgraded from 2014 MBP with Big Sur 11.6.3 - on the 2014, when I put my MBP in DND mode, everything was silenced, sounds, banners, everything, I only had to activate DND. On my 2021, In Monterrey, the sounds play while I am on my Zoom / Teams calls, like the others have written above, Banners do not show, so they got it half right. I have disabled sounds in the individual notifications, but mail does not have that option in the Notifications and Alerts within System Preferences. I want sounds when I am not on a zoom call, don't want sounds when I am.... so disabling sounds altogether solves one issue, creates a different one. On Big Sur it worked the way I want it to, so I disagree with the comment that says DND was not designed to work this way, because I have experienced it. The only way I can accomplish this is to exit all apps when I am on a Teams call... but I have to be in teams so I still receive the alerts / sounds for teams. Not sure why this changed.

No solution on my end. A colleague suggested I keep my volume turned off/very low which I've been doing to stop the dings from playing out in meetings (except when I'm wearing earphones then only I can hear the dings, not anyone else on the video call etc)
