man that is ugly!!
anyway...wrap ur iPad in a bookbook case....cool looking case...will divert your (and everyone else's) attention from that ugly back :D

That is some hideous engraving. I can see engraving something cool on it, but even if Apple did it, it would look bad. I find it distracting and ugly that you said iPad 2 instead of just iPad. Just my 2 cents though.

Sounds like it's time to threaten, and then go through with, a credit card dispute.

If you ordered something and it was not the way the site said it would be, that's more than enough reason to charge back a transaction, assuming you've contacted the merchant. It's in the terms of service that the merchant has to do all they can to make you happy with the transaction IF the transaction has a legitimate problem; this one sounds like it does.

At the very least, if you lose, you've made them work the problem and delayed them getting their cash for 30-60 days, as well as extended the time you have to pay by the same amount interest free.

*UPDATE* I spoke with the Sales Director and forwarded some of the comments posted in this thread. He said he'd forward my email to the President of the company to see what they could do to match Apple Store's engraving system on future MacMall's engravings. He said he was surprised to read the bad feedback. He mentioned he could not give me a refund but would let me pick a case of my choice from the site. I figured I'd let you guys know the latest on this issue.

Thanks for the update

OMG, that looks like a nightmare.

Now I know not to shop at MacMall.

If I were you, I'd file a dispute with my credit card company for false advertising (assuming you'll be able to provide evidence of what it's supposed to look like if they did provide a preview). I would never be satisfied knowing that crap is on the back of my device.

Engravings are silly. Tacky no matter what the font/size.

Credit card company wouldn't do anything. It's not false advertising. They sell engraving and she bought it. Try to return instead. If not, lesson learned.

I know that it's a pain, but if I were in your place, I wouldn't back down until they took the item back.* I was kind of hoping that they would have a picture of what the engraving was supposed to look like on their website, but it appears (?) that they don't. That probably would have been helpful for your cause. There needs to be a massive lot of pressure on them though to get a sample image up and to be upfront about this.

*Although, this is from the perspective that I would have somehow, for whatever reason, ordered an iPad from them. I'm not trying to be snooty or a wiseass or anything, I'm just curious: Why one earth did you (or would anyone) order from them over anybody else? I wasn't even aware of their bad reputation, but their very poorly designed website is enough to put me off when there are countless other sources out there. Did you get it on a Black Friday sale from them or something?

Yes, it was a Black Friday sale. They were on sale for $449.99 with no tax and free shipping. I had never ordered from them before so lesson learned right there. Unfortunately you can't return engraved items unless there's something wrong with them.

I still say if I were in your position, I'd be making s*** difficult for them unless they replaced or refunded, or at the very least placed a sample image on their product pages in addition to the case that they're offering you.

That engraving is hugely ugly (sorry to rub it in), and there's no way that they're blissfully unaware of that. There's a reason why they have no sample of their work on their website. I really do feel that depending on potential customer's good faith and providing no fair warning is quite deceptive.

I feel bad for your TS.. looks really bad..

I would threaten a charge back if they don't refund or exchange for another ipad..

I rather have a label made up.. Instead of that engraving

Perhaps its the photo but I can't see anything wrong with it. I assume you chose the font and the text, so there must be a problem with the execution, but for the life of me I can't see it.

I got it engraved thinking I'd get the same font and size that the Apple Store offers. It looks very unprofessional!

Ah, disregard the post I made above. I hadn't read the bit I quoted. If you expected the kind of etching apple do I see why you are unhappy. What is macmall exactly?
