I have a MacBook Pro 13 and I had returned a 512GB SSD with firmware version 0309 because of high battery consumption earlier but the drive worked perfectly on performance side. I called up crucial support and they told me the new firm ware has improved power saving features and so ordered a new 512MB crucial SSD. Yesterday I got my new SSD with firmware 000F and now i am seeing lot of freezes and I observer that the CPU usage is 100% when this happens. I have an i7 dual code 2.7Ghz processore and could see all the processors are running at 100% when freeze happens. My advise is Don't go for Crucial SSD until a New firmware is released or stick 0309.

MacBookPro 13" 2011 early edition

My 256GB drive came with the 000F firmware and I haven't had any issues with it at all. Performs great.

I updated the crucial m4 512gb firmware from 0309 to 000f and now I get a lot beach balls and system freezes. :(
My m4 was working perfectly with 0309 firmware.

I have macbook pro 13" early 2011 model. In crucial forums there is atleast one person currently having the same problem after updating with similar macbook pro.

I have the same issue and is very evident that its because of 000f as I updated my drive back to 0309 firmware and have stopped freezes.. But now this takes more battery almost twice as by original macbook pro 13 hdd.

I just installed a Crucial m4 256GB, and it was already firmware 000F and has zero problems that I can see.

I have same problem with my 128GB m4
After upgading from 0309 to 000f it started working like usb flash drive  on 2010 13" mbpro
Downgrading back to 0309 fixed the issue.
Most interesting part of this - OS X got beachballs on 000f but win 7 at bootcamp was working fine.

Hm, it seems that most of the M4 firmware issues occur on 13" MBPs...

So how do you guys update the firmware without an optical drive?

If your MBP had an internal optical drive, you need to reinstall it to upgrade the firmware. For some reason, you can't boot from anything external. I've tried multiple disc drives and USB thumb drives. It needs the internal to boot from the disc image. I'm too lazy to upgrade to 000F but I have the one previous to it, so I'm not really worried. Too much of a hassle to uninstall drives from external superdrive cases, brackets, etc.

Saem problem here, I bought an 260 gb crucial m4 000F
And it frezees a lot , can I come back to version 0309?! Where can I downloaded it

PLEASE HELP!

Just to add my two cents, I recently purchased a late-2011 MBP 15" and installed a brand new Crucial M4 512GB into it. Firmware 000F, no problems whatsoever.

I've been looking around and have come to the conclusion that the 000F firmware for the Crucial M4 causes freezing issues on early-2011 MacBook's and older, while any MacBooks that are newer don't experience any issues (ex. Late-2011 MBP, mid-2012 MBP).

mine is early 2011, no problems.

Got issues with my m4 so I wanted to share my experiences, this topic popped up as soon as I googled :D

13" mbp , bought a 512 GB m4 which had 000F firmware: beachballs and freezes. I have now downgraded the firmware to 309 and will try and see if that works out. Note: fresh install.

Quite a disappointment, the previous m4 I tried last year, corrupted all data and I sent it back and replaced it with a hybrid disk instead.
Crucial and my MBP don't seem to mix so well..odd if you ask me: you can put almost any hdd in a machine and no problem, but these SSD fella's..they are kinda picky if you ask me :p

This really sux, I had to also revert to earlier because of the spinning beachball of death. Mine is also early 2011 13" so what is the problem, is it a faulty drive? is it a problem when you use this SSD with a particular MBP? is there a special procedure to follow to install the fw (there was mention of bios but I thought those settings were only for a PC). This is really very confusing!!!

My M4 512GB came with 000F by default. Using it as an external drive. Nothing majorly negative about it.

I upgraded immediately to 000F before I even installed it in my 2010 MBP.

No issues in the month I've used it.

am late to this party. on a 13" mbp (late2011). how do i check which firmware version i have? will back up, try the update (and/or report back if i have it already).

thanx
