am late to this party. on a 13" mbp (late2011). how do i check which firmware version i have? will back up, try the update (and/or report back if i have it already).

thanx

Click on :apple: menu --> About This Mac --> More Info --> System Report --> Serial-ATA in Hardware Section --> Select your disk on the right panel 'Serial-ATA Device Tree' --> Read 'Revision' value in the bottom panel.

hmm. i saw that earlier, it says "9". does that mean 309??
thanx btw...

I did it last week before upgrading, but to be honest, I don't remember . What's for sure, you are not with the latest 000F. Also, when you boot with the latest firmware CD, you'll see your current revision.

I am using a m4 SSD 512gb, on a early 2011 15" macbook pro. Running 000F firmware... no problems with freezes or lockups...!

I don't get why there are so extremely different reports here about this, maybe it's pure luck? :)

Anyway; the only thing I notice is that my macbook seems to be a bit more hot then before.

256GB Crucial M4 owner here, in the main drive bay of a mid-2009 Macbook, with the optical drive still in place.

I've got revision 000F and, 24 hours after fitting the drive, it's fine. Haven't yet seen a spinning beachball. However, I didn't upgrade the firmware. It came out of the box with this version.

This might sound patronising but you guys ARE resetting your PRAM and SMC after the firmware upgrade, aren't you? Remember that Macs aren't like dumb old PCs. Macs store hardware settings.

Can anyone help me and tell me why I've been stuck on this screen everytime I try to update my firmware? I actually let about 30 minutes go by and it was stuck on this screen. The drive stopped spinning after the initial boot and nothing else happened. I've tried both CD-R and DVD+R from my external SuperDrive since I don't have an internal drive because of set up with SSD+HDD. Any advice please? Thanks for the help!

You need to make a USB stick. I used the instructions here but I've seen several different approaches that people have said work.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately Terminal is telling me "Permission denied" in step 6. I'd reply to that forum but it looks like it hasn't been touched in a month. I'm hoping to find better luck here.

Unless you are running inside your Terminal as 'root' (which I don't recommend) you will probably need to put 'sudo' (sans quotes) before the 'dd' command.
Terminal will ask you for your password and it should work.

Let us know if this helps! :)

Thanks! It did help but when I tried booting it I ran into the issue that a few people are having and that's the 'No Bootable Device' text is shown. Any help on this issue?

Back to 000F

Try the 000F firmware again after upgrading to 10.8. Has been working fine for the last few hours. I also un-checked the 'spin down hard drive when idle' in Energy Saver. So either one help it to run better now.

Also got a 256GB m4 for a late 2009 Mac Mini. It came with 000f and has been running fine from day one. System is also 10.8

+1 for having problem with firmware 000F.
Got the drive yesterday with latest firmware. Start having crashes after putting it to sleep. Roll back to 0309 and test the sleep/wake problem a few times. It is not beach balling any more. Too soon to tell if there might be other problems yet to show up. Will post back then.

Its dead

Just to add to the list of experiences with Crucial M4 and MBP.
I got me a 512GB M4 in june, put it in my 2010 15" MBP, and everything was dandy till august, then it started messing up, freezing up and refusing to reboot, showing the disk corrupted when I went into recovery mode and used the disk tools. So I tried a recovering and reinstalling the drive a few times while talking to Crucial support by mail (I live in Norway, so picking up the phone and calling during mountain time wasnt exactly something Id like to do).

I ended up downgrading the firmware from 000f (it came with that version installed), to 0309. And again things were pretty cool from early september till yesterday... Again it refused to boot, again it was corrupt. I contacted support and asked what to do next (they had been mumbling about replacing my disk in august, if the firmware downgrade didnt fix the issue). Then I got told that I was to either keep the computer on for 8 to 24 hours idling... Either without any programs running on my desktop, or in startup manager mode... I had just recovered my MBP last night and opted for the easiest way out. Turned it on, closed everything but finder, and let it sit for 20 hours. Then when I tried using it it acted weird, sometimes registering when I clicked on something, sometimes not... So I rebooted in recovery mode to get to the disk tools (they wouldnt start from my desktop). I got into recovery mode, disk was corrupted, unrepairable, so I recovered it again, then I decided to go into startup manager mode to follow all instructions Ive been given. Trying that I only got a blinking file symbol. So there was no option but to go back into recovery mode, disk tools, and there the whole drive was gone. Nothing. So Ive written to Crucial, Im typing this, then Im typing a mail to the place I got the drive (we do have decent return policies for malfunctioning products here, 2-5 years), and Im going to ask if I can get another product upon returning this drive, maybe a Samsung...

However, should things work out with this doomed M4, Ill make sure to post it here.

Same thing just happened to my M4 512GB. Going to try the download firmware trick for now. This is the second M4 that has died, time to look for another brand.

Today I spoke with a representative at Crucial and he told me that the firmware 000F wasnt meant for Macs (well, Mountain Lion in particular). And furthermore, if you experienced none of the problems they listed in the change log, you should not really update to the latest firmware 010G, either...

He suggested that I use 0309 on Mac.

I can verify 0309 to 000f was a real problem

I can verify 0309 to 000f was a real problem. serious issues w/ disk usage and i had no other processes running that could have been the culprit. I worked with crucial engineers and they helped me diagnose that the problem was with the 000F fireware update.

has any one tried the newest 040H revision?

I just discovered this... My M4 has had a problem for the last year and I always figured it was an issue with either RAM or that I was using programs that were using up too much processing power... FCPX etc.

Has anyone had any luck with the newest firmware?
