hmm. i saw that earlier, it says "9". does that mean 309??
thanx btw...
You need to make a USB stick. I used the instructions here but I've seen several different approaches that people have said work.
Thanks for the update. Unfortunately Terminal is telling me "Permission denied" in step 6. I'd reply to that forum but it looks like it hasn't been touched in a month. I'm hoping to find better luck here.
Unless you are running inside your Terminal as 'root' (which I don't recommend) you will probably need to put 'sudo' (sans quotes) before the 'dd' command.
Terminal will ask you for your password and it should work.

+1 for having problem with firmware 000F.
Got the drive yesterday with latest firmware. Start having crashes after putting it to sleep. Roll back to 0309 and test the sleep/wake problem a few times. It is not beach balling any more. Too soon to tell if there might be other problems yet to show up. Will post back then.
However, should things work out with this doomed M4, Ill make sure to post it here.
Just to add to the list of experiences with Crucial M4 and MBP.
I got me a 512GB M4 in june, put it in my 2010 15" MBP, and everything was dandy till august, then it started messing up, freezing up and refusing to reboot, showing the disk corrupted when I went into recovery mode and used the disk tools. So I tried a recovering and reinstalling the drive a few times while talking to Crucial support by mail (I live in Norway, so picking up the phone and calling during mountain time wasnt exactly something Id like to do).
I ended up downgrading the firmware from 000f (it came with that version installed), to 0309. And again things were pretty cool from early september till yesterday... Again it refused to boot, again it was corrupt. I contacted support and asked what to do next (they had been mumbling about replacing my disk in august, if the firmware downgrade didnt fix the issue). Then I got told that I was to either keep the computer on for 8 to 24 hours idling... Either without any programs running on my desktop, or in startup manager mode... I had just recovered my MBP last night and opted for the easiest way out. Turned it on, closed everything but finder, and let it sit for 20 hours. Then when I tried using it it acted weird, sometimes registering when I clicked on something, sometimes not... So I rebooted in recovery mode to get to the disk tools (they wouldnt start from my desktop). I got into recovery mode, disk was corrupted, unrepairable, so I recovered it again, then I decided to go into startup manager mode to follow all instructions Ive been given. Trying that I only got a blinking file symbol. So there was no option but to go back into recovery mode, disk tools, and there the whole drive was gone. Nothing. So Ive written to Crucial, Im typing this, then Im typing a mail to the place I got the drive (we do have decent return policies for malfunctioning products here, 2-5 years), and Im going to ask if I can get another product upon returning this drive, maybe a Samsung...
However, should things work out with this doomed M4, Ill make sure to post it here.
