was it in a white box or retail packaging?

white box. But I highly doubt if it's refurbished. The phones have been in sale for only a day now. The genius bar guy told me they got replacement units along with the sale units from day 1.

btw i went for a replacement because my white iphone had a few scuffs. I had to go through 4 replacement units before finding the right one.

a white box is not the only option.

i called apple, spoke with them... now i'm getting a black box with all new accessories and new phone with a serial number on the phone that matches the box. not the typical "refurb" white box.

well, i feel dumb quoting myself...

here's the story, as it's developing:

i received a white box today with just the iPhone 5. as in my quote above, i stated that it would be a black box, brand new everything.

sure enough, i didn't get what was promised. so, i'm on the phone with applecare now, waiting to speak with another sr. adviser to get this issue solved.

yes, am i anal about this, most def. reason being: i resell my iPhone before a new one comes out, and people like to see that the box serial number is the same as on the iPhone...

i'll try to keep this post upto date.

EDIT: a rep from apple talked with the higher-ups and determined they cannot send the black box out of some weird policy. I was a little upset, and was told a gift will be sent to me because of this. Now, I'll be receiving a nice USB to Lightning cable. (Note: I did not ask for any "gift" or anything other than the original black box.)

Had a no sim error and after they tried other sims with no success, they swapped my phone this morning. This was an AT&T 32 gig model and they had already said they had no AT&T or Verizon to sell, just a few Sprint phones. Not sure what box it came in as the guy brought the phone out by itself with just the protectors on it. This was at Crabtree store in Raleigh.
